I'm wondering, if this is really the case, why does Microsoft not just point that out, but instead comes with ad hominem arguments?

The post indirectly confirms Google's claims. Otherwise, it would have been easy for Microsoft to point out where Google is wrong and everybody would blame Google for being stupid. Instead, Microsoft chose to attack Google 'personally' with

How is that a great response? It does not address the allegations at all, just claims the allegations are insulting. The only great thing I see is that the blog post actually confirms what Google said. Because otherwise, it would have been

This is the usual FUD we are used to from Microsoft. First just claim that the allegations are wrong (use 'Period.' and 'Full Stop.'). Don't try to explain! Than redirect allegations as a personal attack (say it is 'insulting'). Don't try t

I don't see how this is a 'full report'. For example: > There was a root privilege escalation on one of our platforms which permitted exposure of credentials that were then used to access machines with externally-facing SSH. How are the

Good intro for a programmer who just happen to not know javascript. This propertyMap-thing for objects is scary, though.

Why not just use NoScript (and disallow googlesyndication.com)?

I understand the privacy concerns, but not the FUD about the referrer. Just turn it off and you're done! There's even a Firefox addon that allows site-specific settings. RefControl https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/refcontrol/

RefControl https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/refcontrol/ I'm using it since years and I don't understand all that referrer-privacy hype. Just don't send the referrer.

I was wondering why I should know how to write tests in CPAN modules or when Perl 5 reclaims memory to be a 'good' perl programmer. Still a good list, though.

Unless you are trolling, just define 'more productive and useful'. Age is not an important property of a programming language.

Wouldn't people that click on the ad links of the spam sites also click on the ad links of the non-spam sites? So what's Google's benefit to annoy everybody with non-quality search results? I'd guess, the SEO is currently just too good.

What's your point? Because '50% of measured intelligence (whatever that is) can be attributed to genetics' nothing/little/less can/should be done about it? Or because only 50% is determined by genetics, we should do more about inequality in

The rest of http://codicesoftware.blogspot.com/2010/11/linus-on-branchin... is also interesting: "It's actually made worse by rebasing. A lot of people end up rebasing on top of such a random kernel (again, just because it's the 'most rec

Just a guess: your anonymous function cannot be redefined (because there is no name), but String.fromCharCode could potentially be. Thus, a similar reason as mentioned in the article for global vs. local variables. One would think that Stri

Generally, you cannot scan the loop body to find redefinitions of `chr`. This is known as the halting problem. Consider, for example, a redefinition of `chr` in an `if`-clause: you would have to actually run the program to know if the `if`-

Well, if you test an algorithm that claims to have same image quality with smaller file size, you should compare images of the same quality and look at the files size, not the other way round. Besides, I don't see why you need megabytes of

Unfortunately, webp claims to have same image quality with smaller file size, but the 'real world analysis' compares images quality at the same file size. Further, image quality is measured in terms of mean RGB or value difference, which is

I don't get it. Isn't `|i|` the shorthand version of a lambda binding an i? And `lambda { i }` a lambda not binding anything? So why is the result surprising? I must be missing something. Edit: I mean in each { |i| p i } the |i| stan
