I can only join the praise for the Steam Deck. For the launch of Diablo4 I bought a 3k gaming laptop which I returned because the Steam Deck was the superior experience for me.

Structs and strict type enforcement for a subset of the code, I really like. Also, a more seamless pipeline from "experimental python" to "reliable production ready python" makes a lot of sense to me. At the end of the d

Also a most random note here: mutable /ˈmjuːtəbl/ adjective liable to change. I like the emphasis that it’s liability haha

Biggest footgun in python IMO are mutable default parameters. It amazes me that someone thought this was a good idea.

I had good experiences with them (assuming a good manager of course). I also like to write though and it helps me to collect my thoughts and summarize what I have done. Also, the meeting was only 15 mins usually.

We extensively explored this approach for a use-case and dropped it in favour of BigQuery external data query for one core reason: It can't do streaming reads if you have to do any kind of operation on the underlying data, for almost e

Damn, thats interesting. Are there more examples of open source books? Quite an interesting idea, especially for non fiction.

Maybe we need a recommendation on top of the boringfied version to find the truly interesting stuff for you.

Is it ? It just means generative pretrained transformer can they own that? I guess so. Edit: they filed for GPT trademark but don’t have it yet and it’s questionable if they get it.

The public has associates GPT with LLM/ or more explicitly “a thing that responds to my free text like a nice human would.” Much more so than OpenAi. If they call it SlackLLM 99% less people would know what you mean.

Fantastic article if you are quick to just go to the comments like I usually do, don't. Read it. One of my favorites: LoRA works by representing model updates as low-rank factorizations, which reduces the size of the update matrices b

So I use ChatGPT every day. I like it a lot and it is useful but it is overhyped. Also from 3.5 to 4 the jump was nice but seemed relatively marginal to me. I think the head start OpenAi has will vanish. Iteration will be slow and painful g

We should rebrand bots, maybe to something like text apps or conversation apps or something like this bots have a bad rep and don’t really represent what these LLM driven apps are.

The first thing you realise when you start playing with LLMs and want to build a product around it is that you might not need a UI anymore but a text interface might be at the same time easier to build and much more intuitive. In this case

I started using BigQuery with stream inserts for logging. I have around 300k inserts a day und it costs a whole cent a day for writes and even less for reads (I don’t read much though).

This is exactly the type of thing why I am so excited about LLMs. If they make use widely more productive we can build huge things like this and take on the monopolies in the space. It might lead to a wave of "thought impossible to bui

Couldn't agree more. I see a lot of parallels to the move to cloud. Yes, some big comps will still have an AI engineering team and build their own models but the vast majority will move to an API. The same way the vast majority used to
