LP is in essence live coding, what we have now with Twitch and YouTube. And it has its merits: you see how a problem is tackled. I believe this should be obvious.

Netburst is not based on P6 (i686). Core is a development stemming directly from Enhanced Pentium M which stems from Pentium III. All others build on this. Broadwell is Haswell on a new node (14nm instead of 22nm).

AVX-512 maps really well to the SPEs inside of Xbox 360 and PS3. Just enabling AVX-512 increases frame rates at almost 20% in some instances!

It’s described in detail at Anandtech [1][2]. It has mostly to do with the fact that Apple’s chips are so much larger in every way measurable. There’s no magic, just raw performance from comparably massively over engineered designs. At the

You would theoretically get something akin to the latest Intel processor running at over 10 GHz. I fully expect that once Apple releases their server class CPUs at the end of this year we’ll get something that’s equivalent to the latest Int

In essence you get a CPU that is 4 (!) architectures newer. Here are the architectures of Intel (according to Wikipedia): 1. i686 (Pentium Pro, Pentium II, Pentium III) 2. Core (Core 2) 3. Nehalem (Core i7-920, Core i5-750) 4. Sandy Bridge

According to discussions on the Gentoo [1] and Fedora [2] forums, i686 without SSE2 could be broken in some packages in subtle ways. One is that the stack alignment changed from 4 bytes to 16 bytes, another is long NOPs, another is that som

In essence, it is a RISC since the days of Pentium Pro. Each instruction is decoded to several micro-operations and the trick of making the CPU run fast lies in the decoder. This also leads to situations where many instructions in x86 asm w

The deal with these devices is they have the compute power of a Pentium III from 1999 or a Raspberry Pi 2 from 2015. It’s enough for an embedded system, but vastly underpowered for desktop computing or web browsing.
