> We should ban margin from our components. Hear me out. Maybe the first line of the article? The implementation of the CSS spec is closely optimised for performance by the browser. Trying to achieve the same outcome by using other means

Margins are part of the specification of CSS. Banning them would be crazy. If you don't like thinking about them, sure .. introduce the concept of spacer elements in your framework. But outlawing something because you don't fully

Looks interesting. If your draft didn't take off, what do you think the main reason would be?

I'm quietly confident that it will. Much in life seems to follow the movement of a pendulum. I appreciate how the tide turned, but societies appetite changes over time; and the fact is, open protocols are not anti-profit, or anti-busin

I really hope that we end up moving back towards supporting open protocols. I was heartened (and a little surprised) that Jack Dorsey recently mentioned that the draconian control of the Twitter API was the worst thing Twitter had done [1].

The discussion is actually _about_ Zen Gardens. You chime in with a point that's not actually related to what I was talking about. I let you know. You get annoyed. I think you need to simmer down.

You're responding to someone who was asking what my comment was referring to, and I felt you were misrepresenting what I was talking about. That's why.

The article we are commenting on was specifically written around 2006 to discourage tables from being used for layout, which was a common approach at the time. Some people can construct tables from P tags for all I care. It doesn't mea

I've never met a professional frontend developer who does that. CSS Zen Gardens is from around 2006.

You're mistaken. Frontend developers use tables for tabular data. I really don't understand what you're trying to say.

I think you're confused. We use tables for tabulated data. CSS gardens was created specifically to stop people from using tables for layout.

Up until CSS was a viable thing, people built websites in a very different way to our modern approach. In order to get things to line up, everything was put in a table with invisible borders. If there was a gap, a transparent spacer.gif ima

I haven't had to reply to someone who feels tables are 'the way' for a good 15 years. .. nicely triggered for a moment!

The development of masculine features or otherwise in no way necessitates the development of a matching gender identity. What exactly do you think being transgender means?

This has nothing to do with transgenderism at all. Completely different issue.

If testosterone is the defining characteristic of being male, I have no idea why trans people born male need take hormones to reduce testosterone levels. Also gender is independent of sexual apparatus.

So in this case, do these characteristics stop a man from identifying with the gender they were born with?

I suppose it depends whether you're making the comment in a community where the majority are cis gendered men or not. And furthermore, if you weren't expecting the majority to disagree you've just certified the comment as dis

It's dangerous to dismiss transgenderism to be the result of psychological mishaps caused by environmental mishaps. You're effectively presenting a transgender person as a second class person, or a mistake. You're also aligni

Preempting downvotes, because you know your comment is not acceptable to the majority, feels like a very cynical device designed to limit that behaviour.

The Wikipedia 'flat design' article might need updating with this information. I see your point re. desktop UI elements, but I think 'flat design' became a zeitgeist term in the 2010s for the majority of creatives /

A nice overview, but it feels like the dates are out. Flat design came in much later than the 90s .. Web 2.0 was all about curved corners and gradients .. flat design was introduced in 2010s.

Does Photoshop let anyone become a useful designer? I'd argue, no. Bubble will not provide good handmade applications in the vast majority of cases.
