Agreed. We desperately need a few large scale public projects. But the country (US) is so divided that no one’s going to agree to anything that selectively benefits one region over another.

I agree they had to spend the money to prevent a depression. I don’t think anyone is here contesting the amount of money unleashed. However, I am really disappointed with where that money went. It went into “non-productive” assets and activ

In the past few weeks, Nasdaq top 100 lost something like $4T in value which is more than what we lost back in 2020. That’s a lot of money. And also consider the money lost in crypto. People are going to be more prudent with their spend and

OK, but you realize you can say that about all the big techs now? Google is not an ad company. It’s really an “AI” company with far more valuable R&D. Same with Facebook. If we are looking at tech companies purely from research assets a

Man, I wish Steve Jobs were alive to witness the total domination. I imagine he knew but perhaps not to this extent.

In my mind Claude Shannon is the greatest mind in modern history (move over Einstein!). He’s vastly under-appreciated outside of CS circles.

This reminded me of my experience with them a few years back with MQTT. They were pushing their Bluemix/cloud hard and I just wanted to test it out. Never again.

This so much. They basically let Snowflake (among others) eat their lunch. Back in 2015, IBM actually had a good chance but leadership just dropped the ball.

The bigger and more interesting question for me right now is who’s going to be this decade’s IBM? I want to say Amazon.

Healthcare IT is all garbage. It’s as if the people who invested in the space specifically did not want any of the inefficiencies to go away.

I like 1Password but I’d never trust them for corporate “secret” management.

I personally never had those issues. You can certainly test drive Bitwarden for free. Importing from 1Password is rather straight forward.

So they think people will put on a headset in order to shop. Versus me picking up my phone and ordering something within a minute. Or texting someone a simple message. What VR and metaverse miss is that they haven’t solved the asynchronous

I’ve been using Bitwarden, LastPass and 1Password for the past few years. Of the three, Bitwarden gave me the least problems. LastPass is by far the worst. While 1Password is generally good about keeping up with its features, it is on the p

USPS, despite seemingly negative public perception, has some very cool tech features. My favorite is informed delivery.

I am pretty bearish on the the semi space especially after TSMC comments last week. I really think they’re expanding at the worst possible time. Understandably, this is largely due to politics.

What this study misses is how much BTC is fueled by altcoins. It’s an ecosystem that’s rarely discussed.

Depends on what you see as success. Often times it equates to money and that’s a bad way to view success. A good deal of monetary success is by luck and/or exploitations.

Are they still using pandemic as an excuse for not having live customer service? Paypal is simply the worst. I’ve once had to reach one of their execs to get a problem resolved only they couldn’t get it resolved.

I am convinced college is more or less priced off of prestigious private high schools where the parents simply pay cash. For the wealthy it is acceptable to pay 60-70K per year for their kids. Clearly this represents the wealth gap in this

Rates will have to rise to cut inflation. But EM countries will be the ones to pay the price in the end. I understand most people on HN likely enjoyed a great run in tech bubble but you have to admit speculation here is simply mind boggling

I don’t care about slow productivity. I care more about FAKE productivity. Talking about people who schedule emails at odd hours or people who are there to cheerlead. That’s basically 80% of white collar workforce.

That’s not fair and I didn’t mean to come across that way. But a good portion of people who worked 5-7 years in SV (or in other tech hubs such as Boston, NYC, Seattle/PDX) have $$$ in the bank.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad deal in 2022? $500K is not much and you’re effectively giving up a big chunk of your equity for reputation and “access”.
