Seems like a lot of folks in this transition at the moment. It'd be great to take a poll. I wonder if a low-cost provider will offer the one-click installs we all came to appreciate with decent shared hosts, along with a decent back-up

Looks like we have the same mindset - appreciate hearing from the like-minded. We could quite easily drop our sites on a managed host... but where's the fun in that? This level of control and xp points gained can't be had elsewher

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to document it, if there's some interest. I mainly DDG'd and man-paged my way through, but I'll share the resources etc. and link to it here when done.

It's php-fpm, kyrra. Those processes are somewhat more resource-intensive! I've tried to reduce php calls with the caching, plugin minimalism etc. Thanks for the ab tip.

Sure, it's a little more involved than I can type up in a comment, but I can point you in the direction of a few resources I used by email? I see it's in your profile, if that's OK.

I optimized the sites on the 512MB droplet for a few weeks (mysqltuner, nginx configs, plugin selection) and then recently stepped up to the 1GB RAM. The admin pages were chugging a little, especially with commerce plugins in the mix.

Great, very clear. NoScript user, so had to do some right clicking to see the 3-step section, but the rest didn't require that. Is it converting well? Got a screenshot of the old design?

Fair point. About to post something similar based on mediocrity in enough domains, perhaps some specific expertise but mainly systems and persistence. Some kind of self pep talk!

You didn't lose your data! I've been dealing with backups a fair bit recently, using Obnam over SSH. It starts to induce paranoia at a certain point, with concerns over your safest backup drive failing, so you save to a third and

Ah, I'd misunderstood the 'other half' in that case, thinking it just to be a fancy name for the rear case with a 'colour feature'. There may be hope yet, although nobody seems to know if that command line/root

As a (still happy) n900 user looking for an upgrade path to a decent open phone with modern hardware, I'm hoping that Sailfish gives you command line/root access. Realistically that probably won't happen in this first iterati

My thoughts exactly. Switching away from Chrome I loaded Ghostery/NoScript/ABP into FF. Then became concerned about system resources (FF still bloated, moreso now with extra plugins), then heard about the NoScript/ABP feud (a

Perhaps ridiculous to even consider this at the early stage we're at, but that was full of useful information to bear in mind to avoid missing an opportunity. Particularly appreciate being made aware of the preparation that can be done

I've got noscript running, so I didn't see it. Goes nicely with my point though - treat your readers with respect. Some crowds are more sensitive to it than others, but even those who don't notice any foul play shouldn't

I'm enjoying the Groove posts too, and agree with your general point - being upbeat is valuable, as is soliciting feedback and calls to action. I just think I'm too cynical to be too pushy in an email, even if it's dressed up

Hand up - still use one as my only phone. It definitely has its flaws, but the ones you mention have really never been an issue for me, either due to fixes, updates or workarounds. I somehow get 1.5-2 days use out of the thing, per charge,

All of that. And now, to boot, we've just had (Sir) Malcolm Rifkind on BBC Radio 4 displaying a nice and clear level of detachment from reality, alluding to the Guardian editor's supposed implicit agreement of his own wrongdoing b

I did pick up on that, but struggle to believe you genuinely believe that the term "netbook" originated from a concept of the browser-only system. I suspect you might be mangling the semantics to fit a product you like. The most l

Fellow netbook user, Thinkpad x120e, 6 gigabytes of RAM and a recent 256 gigabyte SSD (recommended!) make for a plenty capable machine. It used to last 6 hours, but could do with a new battery. And USB3 ports etc. but it generally flies. So
