Use NoScript and HTTPS Everywhere only in Firefox. Try to keep extension usage down. In Chrome I use Adblock only, and despite preferring it as a browser, end up sticking with the 'tracklessness' of the FF setup for the most part.

Newsbeuter - 'Mutt for RSS' - fast, most-lightweight, self-hosted on Raspberry Pi. This is after trying TT-RSS and Miniflux (post-Reader). Both decent, but neither as appealing. Miniflux is very attractive, I just prefer the speed

While we're recommending alternative ISPs in the UK, here's a nod to Fast[1]. UK-based support, no filtering or other obstruction, even remaining polite and understanding when I inadvertently took down a large portion of their net

Since Google Reader went away I've tried to self-host from the Raspberry Pi. Low resource usage was a priority, then, and TT-RSS was a touch too heavy for my liking. Miniflux was faster, which I now use for audio/visual content (a

The comments there took a dark turn very quickly. Shame the thread's closed, with no counterpoints offered before doing so. See also these two independent reports, one written, one an audio recording of a presentation, by a Dutch activ

Yes, plenty of trust issues. I presume/would hope that they would leave a prominent warrant canary if compelled by Swiss agencies to make any amendments. I understood 'expiring' mails to mean those accessed directly on their

Read on. It goes on to advise how they allow encrypted mail being sent to external providers, as well as self-destructing messages. The blurb also discusses the limitations of the system quite openly. This part is only noting that inter-use

TOR? EDIT: Just to expand on that a little. For as long as Snowden sports a TOR sticker on his laptop, or until I hear otherwise, I'll continue recommend its use for basic privacy needs. And as mikegioia notes, it is only used on the f

Noticed this jump over the last few days, randomly checking the price with DDG. It's never clear what's behind these things, but I'm sure there will be some explanation (when the jump has reversed, no doubt).

The security details page[1] makes for interesting reading. Hopefully the new norm is 'E2E' encryption. It's actually starting to feel inevitable, and the hopelessness that followed in the wake of the 'Summer of Security

A finely balanced piece providing a solid counter to Kerry's comments, in his own language, backed with legal and historical precedent. It's tough to improve on that. Recommended reading for those keeping abreast of the situation.

Crafty! I might be mad, but I'm avoiding interactions, professional or personal, with Facebook. Would be nice if http://fanharvest.com (clickable!) offered integration with other networks.

As a non-target-market neutral observer I have a comment on this point. What it lacks in directly relevant meaning, the name makes up for in memorability. The sound/rhyme/rhythm, simple length, inference (devs/money) are all

Best of luck! Always enjoy a personal piece on branching out, even though I've been freelancing for a decade. Something to do with re-affirming past decisions, perhaps? Always good to be reminded to break tasks down to manageable sizes

Wanted this for a while, but didn't expect to see it. Trello is one of the few productivity tools that has stood the test of time for me (i.e. it gets regular use and has done for a few years now).
