Ask HN: University courses run on equity model?
Universities, obvious startup incubators, could offer certain key courses for payment through an equity model, paid for from future company profits. Key courses being STEM courses, intially, the backbones of most countries' economies.
This would tune both the course leaders and students to think economically from day 1, agreeing to assist each other in terms of funding and real-life applications of course content.
Just a thought. The UK is edging ever closer to the US model of offering an expensive education (or the low, low price of free if you just risk your life!), moving away from the days where you could get a grant for a completely free education. Obviously that would only work in a country with a low student population (or an education budget that approaches the size of the military budget), as in Scandinavia/France/Netherlands etc.
Would it make any sense for universities to take this risk in certain areas of study?
