Amen! I've been railing against this as well for some time (with a minimalist project of my own - elefantcms.com), and wow is there ever resistance in certain parts of the PHP community to ideas like this. Reading "quick" start tutorials li

I've only played with Backbone a little, but I was under the impression that one thing Ember and Knockout offered over Backbone was the built-in automatic binding to perform UI updates, which required a bit of custom code (albeit pretty sho

Would love to see that stat. I guess competitors could post about spikes, giving us a sense based on their numbers.

Same, but I think it was 46 for me ;) Big relief having finally gotten off my butt to do that. Well worth the $200+ and at least that renews them all for an extra year at the same time, so it's not like I wouldn't have spent it anyway (just

Anecdotally, I've experienced the opposite. I haven't seen a single "hey this is a neat experiment" post (Radiohead's similar album sale on the other hand...), yet I know quite a few pretty dedicated Louis C.K. fans, and remember his show h

Sweet! Looks like it's skinnable too, is that true? That would be awesome. What would also be awesome is a simple way to add options yourself via callbacks in JS.

Looks like you're right about the i/b/u/s options. Definitely needs a few more (link for one), but looks like a cool start at least. I like that it's client-side and works with a simple Backbone.sync back end.

Also trying to solve this problem in a new minimalist open source CMS that just hit 1.0: http://www.elefantcms.com/ I'm also tired of fixing Wordpress malware issues for friends and clients that host themselves...

This seems like an awful lot of extra layering on top of WP's horribly ugly theming system... And adding Ruby as a requirement? What about building on PHP-based tools like Assetic, or a cleaner template format? https://github.com/kriswalls

I'm a fan of a hybrid approach (a few wrapper functions around PDO itself that just abstract the repetitive stuff in PDO but not the SQL, very similar to the post), and very thin ORM too. I like a basic Model class with a few helpers that I

This is similar to the divide I see in the PHP community. There's been such a big movement towards more strictness, more Java-like features and frameworks, while the more interesting development today seems to be moving away from that, towa

After making a few optimizations, how do you get it to check again without having cached results? The refresh button still brings up the same issues that I've already fixed (mage size reduction, still shows old sizes, and expiry settings st

I played that speech to my girlfriend last spring and she cried. Shortly after she decided to go back to school. I cried the first time I heard it myself. I still remember being 18 (12 years ago already!), having just moved to a new city on

As a small developer, this sounds really cool, but I wonder how much incentive they can create for large sites, especially walled-garden types like facebook.

This is true of any software library or framework that allows plugins, but it doesn't mean that the core idea itself is wrong. For example, jQuery has dozens of gallery/slideshow and lightbox clones of widely varying quality, but jQuery its
