That's pretty awesome! And great for developers that have integrated Disqus into their software too.

I didn't see a link, but I'd be interested to know if and how the integration changes for sites implementing the new Disqus. In any case, looks really good!

I also like the integrations that they're offering (Dropbox, Google Docs, Gmail). The new Basecamp feels like a bit of a step backwards as well in that there's no API for 3rd parties any more (or data export, for that matter), and no optimi

They seem very similar, minus the discussions metaphor Basecamp has (looks like documents/tasks are expected to be enough, with the documents being uploaded or created via wysiwyg editor). One nice difference is Basecamp no longer offers a

RSS also doesn't work very well in pure client-side development, whereas the same data structure in JSON is easy in pretty much any context. Say, for example, I want to show a list of items from a 3rd party in a sidebar on my site. With a f

BBEdit may not be the new cool kid in town (which changes every few years anyway), but it's a solid editor and it keeps pace with change very well. I've been using it since 1999 on an old power mac, and it's still my main editor of choice.

Theirs even? Being "the next Napster" tells a story the media will pick up, which further gets the word out for them, and isn't exactly the worst thing to be called if you want to look cool... :)

I definitely agree that Composer/Packagist are the way forward for PHP, and they are gaining momentum and support. What always helps is solid documentation, which seems to be coming along. There's now a site up at getcomposer.org with info

The built copy only seems to support PostgreSQL and Redis, but the site mentions MySQL, SQLite, and MongoDB too. Is that coming soon? Edit: I could have answered this question for myself by reading... Skimmed the line that explains that on

Definitely! My friend swears he's built tolerance for stepping outside of social norms and going for it by watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, then trying to recreate the same social awkwardness in his own life. Not sure that's terribly ideal, b

Funny that developing relentless resourcefulness from step 0 is really similar to Jason's rejection therapy process: Getting over the fear of something in order to take action and learn from the process. Could be the start of a one- or two-

It's definitely a possibility! That would mostly just be a matter of removing the default apps and layouts, then cleaning up the configs that pertain to the CMS. Would make a fun weekend project :) Releasing the framework separately would t

I think Packagist/Composer is on the upswing, but it takes time to spread the word and change such a big/diverse/chaotic community. More prominent projects adopting it will help too :)

Just because I'm not using PSR-0 in my core (which has its issues, not the least of which is unnecessary verbosity, esp. for core classes in a framework), doesn't mean my code is spaghetti. And I'm not spamming when I contribute an anecdote

Thanks! Making "handlers" feel like ordinary PHP scripts that execute top-down seems like the most natural way in PHP, since that's how the language itself works. It's not much different than inverting the require statement, your front cont

Why the downvote? I'm not exaggerating, I've seen several Wordpress sites hacked in the past few months, one of them several times (after they reinstalled and updated from scratch too). I know it's a target because it's popular, but it also

This is a great point. I find PHP's movement towards things like PSR-0 just too verbose most of the time. There's a lot of plain function use in my work these days building a simpler/minimalist modern MVC framework ( http://www.elefantcms.c

True, and using %1$s style references in the format in order to change their ordering is a lot uglier than overriding a method. In my last example, I did provide a formatMessage() which was the equivalent of the createLogMessage() for purpo

Still it doesn't necessarily do much more than the hard-coded "fprintf($f, '%s [%s] %s - %s', $this->machineName, date('Y-m-d H:i:s'), $level, $message);" already does in the original, unless you want to override it separately. I'd prob

I was assuming the log() method was also part of the framework, and that this was just a framework-level excerpt... ;) Perhaps such a core Log class could use a separate createLogMessage() method (or formatMessage() as I'd probably name it)

The code example given seems a bit disingenuous, since the same level of complexity is present in the code, only the parts of it are broken up into single-purpose methods that may or may not be overkill depending on the needs of the project
