True, there's no reason but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Many people (I would argue, rightly) equate degraded service to being out of service. Made-up Scenario: My cluster can handle XXXk users with an SLA of YYms response time. In

Honestly it depends on your place in life. If you REALLY believe in the company and can afford to do so, then it's probably worth it. I don't have that luxury (2 kids) right now so when I went to the current startup I'm with it was a sidewa

Under the fair debt collection act, all you have to do is tell them to stop calling you. Seriously. Just say something to the effect of "under the rights granted by the fair debt collection act, I'm informing you that you are calling the wr

I'd rather ask a different question. Who the hell cares? Seriously. Why is all this attention being paid to Android by various Apple-centric/Apple-leaning outlets? I'm not trying to be combative. If iOS is the superior platform then why kee

I was a bit surprised by the fact that he didn't want his name revealed in the article. It's not like some people don't know who he is. [edit] decided to respect Moxie's request in the article and remove a small bit of identifiable info

Fair enough. Sinatra and Chef are good examples of "ruby code" DSLs. In contrast, however, I give you Cucumber scenario files. Yes, Given/When/Then are methods but it's still a very elegant DSL. I'll do some poking into prolog and forth-bas

IIRC, the biggest reason people moved away from MT was the licensing issue. I know it's why I did. It's sad to see the downfall, though.

This is the crux of the argument. The TSA would be flat out retarded (for lack of a better word) to try and see this through. Between the stupid comments made by various officials to the clearly conflicting actions, they look even more inco

I know he made a little "bait" comment but at least he admits the simple inability for python to seriously host DSLs. If you look at any python port of a DSL (sinatra clone, cucumber clone, whatever) it's just simply ugly. It's STILL python

No offense to the OpenSSH team for such an awesome product but they chose the BSD license. The companies using it are under NO obligation to do squat for OpenBSD or the OpenSSH team. At least with a GPL license they could have gotten some c

Jython is behind current python implementations. If you're comfortable with being compatible up to python 2.5 then go right ahead. But if you need 2.6 or 2.7 compatibility, Jython is sadly not an option.

You have the same obligation with an EC2 AMI that you have with a physical server. Using a cloud/vps/whatever provider does not obviate the need to secure the base OS.

Haven't been in about 10 years but it was an awesome trip. I would love to go back some day after the kids are grown. I spent a month there interviewing H1B candidates.

It really is unfair to paint all recruiters with such a wide swath. Don't get me wrong, I've considered becoming one because I have a technical background and feel like I could provide a real value to a client just to show the bad ones up.

Good point about the mailing list. At this point though, it seems that just finding a way to deal with the multitude of forkers is the biggest issue. That might be a mailing list or it might be a shoutout on github asking for information. I

I have to call BS. This argument that third parties split the vote is nonsense. Me voting for a third-party candidate is does not imply that I would have voted for any other candidate had they not been on the ballot. Had that candidate not
