IMHO, yes. At least on Ubuntu, it's never been too clear to me how I should save my rules so that they come back on startup. The ufw man page is pretty decent.

Why do you say a VPN server is more secure? Which one? I, for one, trust ssh more than any other software wrt security, especially with password login disabled. Disclaimer: I am not a security expert.

Are you insinuating that the user could have used sudo access to install a backdoor of some sort? If so, changing the password won't stop them either. Am I missing something?

The fuel efficiency of a vehicle rolling on rigid steel wheels on a rigid steel track is FAR higher than that of a vehicle rolling on pneumatic tires on asphalt. The number I have seen quoted is that a train can move 1 ton 400 miles using

High speed Internet access whether DSL, cable, or ethernet requires "a copper wire in every home" [ok, fiber requires a glass wire, but it's still the same concept]. Why do you say copper wire is useles?

Pretty cool tool! My passphrases (omitting spaces between words) get a score of 2. But if I drop the vowels, the score goes to 4 and crack time to 'centuries'. I wonder if this is a good way to create passphrases. Anybody want to chime in?

Hear, hear! :) I'm really happy to see this get to the front page. But why pixels (px) and not points (pt)? I made a site using 12pt text and it looks good everywhere (ipad, iphone, chromebook, linux, windows, mac). I suspect 16px is going

Amazing. Also, this is yet another privacy threat that I dodged because I use the PwdHash extension ( https://www.pwdhash.com/ ). You type the same password for all sites, but the extension invisibly uniquifies them on a per-site basis.

I didn't see it uploading a lot over about 20 minutes. (1) I was listening to an obscure album, (2) I listen to small number of songs repeatedly, although I have a large number "starred" and in playlists from previous installs of the app.

Agreed, infinite loops are a little hard to protect using asserts. When I hit the first infinite loop bug on a code path, I frequently add code to assert that the number of calls is less than $A_LARGE_NUMBER to catch future occurrences of t

I use assertions to protect against things like this. I liberally sprinkle my code with assertions (CS theory calls them pre-conditions and post-conditions, iirc) to crash early if the system is an invalid state. One my pet peeves is that f
