Can you elaborate? Curious how the stress profile differs in alternative family structures.

We have finite lifetimes. If it takes until I'm 60 to afford a home, the reality is that it may no longer make sense to buy. At some point, we’re just describing a landed aristocracy alongside a rent to own scheme.

It’s also not unreasonable that the Altman camp pushed on Ilya first as he was the most likely to switch his vote. D’Angelo is suddenly in the cross hairs for conflict of interest. If he’s taken off the board - then the remaining two member

MSFT may perceive a benefit in absorbing and locking down the openAI team. Doing so will require large golden handcuffs in excess of what competitors would offer those same folks.

There is no world in which MSFT ponied up 10 Billion without an escrow of the model. Depending on the partnership terms and next steps of OpenAI - this could be a significant breach. Given the complex org structure - I wouldn’t be surprised

Bear in mind - most folks are loyal to a paycheck and their best estimate of future paychecks/value. Spot witting because your friend/boss got fired wrongly… is unlikely to maximize either of those unless you were already planning

As others have pointed out, this board has no skin in the game. They just voted out founders who do have skin in the game (although through roundabout means). It’s a very tough sell that this board is doing the right thing.

MSFT likely has the option to claw back some of their money - they could also cease providing Openai gpu’s. At the extreme, they could do so tomorrow based on their perception of the contract dispute. Although such action would risk reputat

For a “standard” corp, or a non-profit with influential/major donors. The board members act as representatives of those stakeholders. For a normal board, this stakeholder check would have been a simple check with internal leadership on

This could yield a lawsuit at some point if those PPUs are worthless due to the board refusing to allow profits…

Also raises deep concerns on governance structure. That the board took this action without consultation with key investors is madness. That they wrote up something which made it sound like a disaster internally further eroded trust that the

Who knows what representations were made. I can’t imagine MSFT pumped 10B into something without protection.

Alternate possibility would be that openAI faces core technical challenges delivering dev day features/promises. If deals were signed, they could be forced to deliver even if the board et al weren’t aligned on investment.

On paper, Sam Altman would have made everyone on the board billionaires. For them to vote him out in this manner indicates that he must have done something egregious to jeopardize that. Lying on P&L, stock sale agreements, or turning do

My comment was on the the innards of the black hole as a meaningless topic. The event horizon (if observable) is likely to have an immense amount of detail on the geometry and mass distribution inside the event horizon.

Isn’t this the natural outcome of the American medical associations license cap? A growing country will always need more medical professionals , if MDs cannot be accessed - then an alternative will emerge.

The one in std uses unsafe. My main concern with learning rust is that you can spend ages trying to learn “the right way” of doing things in rust, when the right way really is to use unsafe.

Same shows up in Postgres Query* struct for SQL. Copying memory between parser, planner, execution would be too expensive in large queries - so instead you have an arena allocated representation.
