I'm a big DO fan as their pricing models are easier to understand, and use them myself for personal projects, but I would hesitate to use some of their products at an enterprise. The reason is that they do not seem committed to SLAs a

So npm supports yarn.lock now, does that mean that it’s intended to replace yarn long term? Are there any pros to still using yarn these days?

There really isn’t a competitor. Supabase is trying to combine OSS tooling into a somewhat similar offering but it’s not nearly as feature rich as Firebase. That having been said, most people use Firebase for real time DB and auth, and Supa

Surely the point the Spotify CEO was making is that music has become unbundled and shouldn’t be released as a collection in an album because consumption is at the track level now, and not that you should make more music as a rule.

Hmm, I think it makes a lot of sense that a language would govern your thought patterns. This happens in software, you are limited in what you can create and do by what concepts you can easily express, why wouldn’t this be true for language

I agree it doesn’t make sense in the context of today, but in 1887 when it was invented, there was no internet, and you couldn’t translate between languages with a computer. The globalization hadn’t happened yet where everyone had to learn

Tuning relevance is extremely difficult, and it’s not just an information retrieval problem - at Amazon’s size (and even smaller companies) a lot of what you see for “relevance” is hand-tuned by humans, through machine learning on longer-ta

I think if you substitute all your questions with env vars, all the same issues present themselves. You have to roll secrets whenever someone with access no longer has access, and the env vars can be stale just the same as the encrypted fil

Yes, ui components have state in the case of a retained mode GUI like the DOM, but in the case of React, relevant data is derived from the application state (eg IsDarkMode is a state property used to derive colors for a component, or the ch

RxDB is using RxJS and is meant for building an observable DB on the client side (i.e. it has local data and works offline). If you were using it server-side with Node, it wouldn't be as compelling.

I agree, I think the move to a more mature state management on the client in general sort of obviated the needs for these databases. Eg if you’re using redux, or mobx, or Apollo, you can cache offline data directly in your state tree, and c
