For anyone interested in pirating content on the internet, it is already pretty easy (even without google search, or this page in particular). So it doesn't really change anything.

I disagree. inflation is _a_ motivator for exchanging currency for other assets/services. But i don't think it is a primary motivator. Inflation/deflation is only a strong motivator in abnormal circumstances. With 2-3% inflation my prim

Sounds like a case for dedicated bike lanes/paths to me. Also, this doesn't take into account other externalities of biking v.s. driving (reduced road wear, fewer cars on the road, health benefits...)

Is there any proof of this, the search+gmail integration was about making it easier for _you_ to see _your_ email. similarly for Google Now. This seems like unfounded conjecture to me.

Also, Google outright rejects some dmca requests and Google also releases data about the actions of copyright owners and DMCA activity on http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/removals/copyright/ . So even if not all abuses were caught

The JVM supports a feature called hot swapping (i think thats what it is called), where classes can be reloaded at run time. Most IDEs take advantage of this in debug mode. So a lot of the time i just launch my server in debug mode and e

Agreed, I constantly look back on the work i have done in the past and think that i had no idea what i was doing. Learning to program is a skill to be honed continuously.

A while back i pirated a bunch of old episodes of This American Life so i could listen to them on my commute/long runs. The episodes were available to stream from the website, but (at the time) i was unable to do that on the go. So I torr

That is assuming that it is easy to tell the difference between security and non-security bugs. Null pointer dereferences can and have been exploited to escape security sandboxes. I read about an interesting one a few years in flash. unf

The key thing to understand about studies like this is that healthier people tend to be more productive and therefore are more likely to contribute more to society. It may cost more to treat the health problems of an 80 year old alzheimer

This is the curiously recurring template pattern http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curiously_recurring_template_... . And I'm am generally against it because it makes the type parameters noisy and confusing. A better approach IMHO is to use

People host malware anywhere they can. It's not uncommon for people to hotlink malware to googlecode project files. googleusercontent is exactly what it sounds like, a place for google to host user content. its fairly reasonable that som

It may be not difficult to do lazy image loading in javascript but ideally you wouldn't have to do it at all. It doesn't encourage lazy or shoddy work. it just allows web developers to focus on creating value rather than just figuring out

Are there rumors that Google might be buying github or dropbox? I doubt that the github guys would want to sell. This seems like a whole lot of worthless fear mongering about a situation that is unlikely to even occur.

would the c compiler actually pull that restrict annotation forward without declaring the locals as restrict?

Well maybe the reason performance improved only slightly is because not a lot of effort has gone into optimizing situations involving restrict pointers because it is so rare. If it is common in fortran it would make sense that a lot of eff

This issue comes up a lot between me and my coworker. He is very anti-nesting, and i prefer methods with single points of return. Obviously it is a balance to create readable code.

Maybe designers hate adwords ads but if revenue from them is growing exponentially maybe they're just not the target audience.

I could see this being very useful for testing little scripts and even small c command line applications i have written. In the case of the small command line applications this is probably the ideal way to test them. Obviously if the appli

I guess go interfaces are like c++ template implicit interfaces except the interfaces have names instead of just protocols. I think the reason that it can be difficult to grasp is because it isn't as explicit. Maybe OO programmers are afra

The examples that are brought up to support that OO languages have a bad economy of execution and compilation seem to be pretty much non existent for Java. The JVM can inline virtual methods and bind non-final methods at the call site when
