Well, secured with the machine secret (which happened to be also the Kerberos long-term key). There was no Kerberos in their SNTP protocol extension, at least when I last looked at it.

UMich LDAP server, upon which many were based, stored entrys’ hierarchical (distinguished) names with each entry, which I always found a bit weird. AD, eDirectory, and the OpenLDAP HDB backend don’t have this problem.

I use vim on Linux without any LSP integration, it’s fine, although I do prefer Xcode. I guess I should look into VSCode…

It's pretty usable on Linux, the odd package needs a patch, but it's pretty smooth sailing. Of course, if you're trying to write an application with a UI, YMMV (although swift-cross-ui looks promising).

Interestingly the dot syntax was proposed and I believe even implemented after Apple acquired NeXT, but it never shipped.

I'm enjoying Swift, particularly the async/await APIs. I think it would be difficult to write asynchronous code in Objective-C (well, there would be a lot of completion handlers). My present case is the control plane for an embedd

Initial motivation was lack of non-blocking SPI I/O in Linux user space. Then it made sense to use it for everything, it’s a straightforward mapping to Swift’s structured concurrency, so why not?

I remember reading an excerpt of this book in Australian Personal Computer magazine when I was a kid, and then the book some years later. Was a great story.

Some really smart people working on Swift, and the C++ interop is a dark art (although was missing some critical features like virtual message dispatch and support for std::function from blocks last time I looked). FWIW there’s been plenty

Wow, whatever is going on (macros?) to write ObjC class implementations in Rust with a hybrid syntax is very, very clever.

AES70/OCA [1] is an AES standard for remote control of professional audio devices. I wrote an open source Swift implementation here [2] which I'm using for a similar digital audio mixer project. (The actual MCU running the mixer w
