Just found the TLAPS Tactics page: https://tla.msr-inria.inria.fr/tlaps/content/Documentation/T... Sounds like the first thing TLAPS does is to translate the TLA+ program into SMT and try to prove it with Z3.

I'd love to find a "bottom up" description of a language like TLA+. Start from the appropriate primitive (SAT solver? SMT solver?), show how to encode an example model directly, add layers of syntax etc as necessary for more

I really appreciate this effort. I'm coming back to Common Lisp after a long absence and I'm very interested in understanding what the most relevant projects are these days. Can be hard with Lisp due to the long history and strong

I'm doing some McCLIM hacking this week. It's fun. So far it Just Works. I'm writing code to draw PCB designs for fabrication. Just getting started and highly speculative. I've been bouncing between various programming l

I've ported Squeak Smalltalk to run on a Forth firmware substrate (OLPC XO.) That's not bootstrapping but it is a satisfyingly compact high-level OS.

MrMoneyMustache shows one path that a lot of people follow. It does involve redefining "filthy rich" along the way though so there's no Ferraris involved. https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2013/02/22&#

I've recently bought second-hand Xilinx FPGAs on Ebay for $250 each with list price of $3500. They come on boards that have an unidentified manufacturing fault. Salvaging and reusing the chips seems realistic using a budget vapor phase

It's a naïve joke though because while few of the non-smoking colleagues are driving around in Ferraris many of them are discretely funding a secure retirement. So the joke really is on the smoker.

I'm starting a new project in Lisp in 2020. That's rolling my own CAD tools for learning hardware development. Lisp makes sense because it's a comfortable environment for interacting with my data. I'll be running the Lis

Guessing in practice you would melt some and see if it's shiny (leaded) or chalky (lead free.) Surely not foolproof for all alloys though. Otherwise you could see how hot your iron needs to be to make it melt.

I really enjoy Common Lisp being imperative enough to make iteration and collection orthogonal. You can freely mix-and-match functions for traversing data structures (dohash, maphash, etc) and ways to accumulate values (setf, push, ext:coll

This reminds me of being an employee in Stockholm. You get scolded if you haven't booked thirty days of vacation into the calendar. Someone comes to your desk and makes you pick the dates. You come back with a lot of energy too :-)

RaptorJIT has a mostly finished port of the bytecode interpreter to C. That should make new arches /much/ easier to support because you don't have to hand-code a VM in asm, only write a JIT assembler backend. Check it out at
