In the Ruby world my ordered policy for picking libraries (gems) is: 1) Jose Valim (+ Plataforma) wrote it 2) Ryan Bates covered it recently 3) It is doing well on the Ruby Toolbox I've been meaning to quaff Elixir for a while (am frenemies

That's a great point. They seem to be the first to focus on the simplicity of the experience. Curious to see what Resig does as well in this space with the Khan Acdemy's JS course.

Codeschool.com has some free courses, so they already have way more "free" content than codecademy. The paid courses are just great addons to that.

I agree. Codeschool.com is way cooler (for now at least) and codecademy is slaughtering them in the press.

These are awesome too: http://www.derekwyatt.org/vim/vim-tutorial-videos/ More of a zero-to-hero approach for vim newbies.

Very exciting to see development on this language. Ruby is always my #1, but CS is becoming #2 with a quickness.

AngularJS is ridiculously good so I'm not sure either. For those who are unfamiliar: Angular examples are about 1/4 the size of backbone equivalents. I'm working on an angular version of the most recent peepcode backbone cast. It's about

HAML is great fun for me (so is Coffeekup). I'm assuming I'd love Slim/Jade as well but havent had the time to try it out. Some people might not like it but for me those abstractions are way useful. I wonder, with HTML5's eventually assend

I'll ditto this. I loved JQuery AIR, but people who bought this (like me) probably should get vouchers for the advanced course. Regardless this is a ridiculously polished product with awesome interactive quizes and great videos. Worth eve

Can't load article but I'd give angularjs a look as well. It has great databinding features that imitate Adobe Flex in a clean way leading to terse code.

Flash not being on the iPad has nothing to do with its instability. It has to do with Steve Jobs wanting to control the App Store 100%. People being able to run Flash Apps gives a means for them to go around Apple's back and not give Appl

I'm an RSpec user, but do feel that Ruby is self-documenting enough that it can be used as is.

Great article and very funny. I use JQuery for the simple stuff and Flex/AS3 for RIA. JQuery is pretty cool but I could see how all the plugins help paint you into a corner. If I did heavy-duty JS development I have no idea what I'd use.

What are the barriers for them to develop their own SMS infrastructure? Even if they got a crazy discount down all the way to $0.01 per text, that's still unreasonable for a message form that can fit in a single packet. I heard somewhere o
