Go switches with exhaustion checks like in [1] would go a long way. An early return construct would be important as well, though, you're right. Go's for loops can only iterate over builtin types: slices, maps, channels, etc. You c

Go is not Rust, but there is a lot it could learn from Rust without sacrifice: sum types, Result for error handling, iterators with for loop support, [edit] non-nullable types etc.

The bit about "mechanical sympathy" is wrong, though. Plenty of languages inline map/reduce or iterator type code down to very efficient cache-friendly traversal of memory, most notably Rust. Go's compiler is just partic

Python is unnecessarily slow, for sure. But I have rarely had to deal with endpoints slow because of Python, as opposed to slow because of unfortunate IO of some sort.

Most statically typed languages have a type safe generic map or it can be easily built. Just like with monomorphisation, Go just stubbornly rejects all PL research younger than 40.

Mostly aesthetic and cultural differences. Both lie about other countries, threaten war, perform coups and bomb other countries. The US democrats exist to divert any worker resistance into channels they can then sabotage. In many ways they&

It wasn't enough to start with for large monitors. High pixel density is important for text readability. A 30" screen at typical monitor distance has very few pixels per arcsecond.

The OS does do that, on behalf of applications CoreData or those using SQLite directly.

Unfortunately, variable length opcodes are a problem for wide superscalar machines, i.e. the fast ones.

The GDPR concept is "personal data", partly since it doesn't just refer to ways to identify a person. PII is a similar but different US concept.

Exactly. The situation is the same on Windows and macOS: the platform contains the vast majority of dependencies that might be shared across apps. Beyond that, apps bundle whatever they specifically need.

You exaggerate Metal's level of abstraction. It's still far lower level than OpenGL or D3D9 and allows most modern optimisations. It's supported by all popular game engines, same as with D3D12 and Vulkan. Of course there are

Bluetooth is entirely unrelated to other computers in cars. In fact, it's just the car's "radio" component that speaks bluetooth. You can easily install such a component in 70 year old cars. You'd only lack the ergo

They are both low-level APIs relative to OpenGL. The difference is mostly that Metal doesn't expose GPU vendor details. Metal has sort of been ported to other platforms, WebGPU is almost a subset of it (albeit somewhat higher level). T

Apple do have a robust high-performance API, Metal. Arguably it has the best ergonomics of any of the low-level graphics APIs. All relevant game engines already have Metal support, too. There's even an equivalent to DXVK in MoltenVK. I
