Misleading title. Nowhere in the article it says "it's easy". The article is about how it's more common to see SaaS companies with $1MM+ in ARR therefore founders shouldn't be thinking investors will be begging them

Simple. The way Google gets away by paying little corporate tax in USA is by loading up their US entity with tax-deductible expenses. What is stopping IRS to say.... "Hold on. These tax-deductible expenses are bullshit, we don't a

I think the problem with the article is that it doesn't dig deep enough. For example, Facebook news feed is driven by an algorithm to push posts you are likely to be interested in. Liking an anti-vaccination post or anti-immigration po

MixPanel has very generous free plan and many free users. Sales people were hired to try to convert free users into paying customers. Plan failed, sales people shown the door. This is why companies need to think really hard about freemium m

How could Woolworths be so stupid? Net assets of Dick Smith before acquisition were $370MM and that's not even accounting for intangible assets such as value of Dick Smith brand. Why would Woolworths think selling for $115MM was ever g

This is the most insightful thing I've read on HN in a while. The beauty of this argument is that it doesn't put customers (who are less demanding while paying more) on pedestal. I run SaaS where there is one plan only. So all cus

Office tour video nails it. Beer dispenser? 6-foot printer so staff can print their ideas in high resolution? Having 60 non-employees to live with them for free? And I'm pretty sure this is not even scratching the surface of non-sense

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Wall street rewards growth over profits so incentives for Salesforce are to keep purchasing businesses which at least break-even (e.g. Heroku) which in turn show growth in revenue but don't necess

Salesforce did a lot of acquisitions worth billions of dollars. Looking at their financial statements, net loss for last FY was 250MM but depreciation and amortization was over 700MM. In other words, the loss they show is just a paper loss.

Everybody can create new money. Not just banks. Let me give you an example. I'm worth $100. We agree I lend you $1,000,000. Sure, I don't physically have $1,000,000 but I can still make a loan to you and give you some piece of pap

Foreign investors buying up real-estate don't do it for the love of it. They seek returns by renting out. And even though real-estate value has increased a lot. Rental income from these properties didn't increase at the same rate.
