Many cars require that the battery is coded to the car. The reason (excuse) is auto-stop/start. BMW have been doing this for over 20 years.

Aside from desktop, at one point maybe two years ago they were pushing the alias, and it didn't work on Linux. It was BS.

It seems like an interesting and worthwhile experiment. It seems almost inevitable that if it works out, the drivers will be removed and they'll switch to tailor-made automated vehicles. It could start to make a lot more sense as a sor

I read that if all of Antarctica melted it would raise 65m or so? And it seems unlikely Antartica would melt in a few hundred years? Do you have a reference for 100m?

192.168.1.2 should be dropped because it doesn't match the WAN subnet. If your router is set up wrong at the factory to forward any traffic through the WAN port I wouldn't trust the firewall, let alone NAT, save me...

We also got a model B when my dad got a bonus (he was away for weeks during the miners' strike of '84) but we had a Radio Shack tape recorder [1] - not a floppy drive! Some years later we went to a store to buy a floppy drive but

There are many cars to get excited about, with outrageous visual and engineering designs. Materials science and drive train development is staggering. An off-the-top of my head (recency biased) selection: GMA T.50, Aston Martin Valkyrie, AM

Yep. I have had myopia since my teens and by the time I decided to consider LASIK at 40 my optician told me it wasn't worth it because my vision will start to adjust toward far sightedness within 10 years. Fantastic advice! A few years

For that to be true reliability needs to trend upwards and the price needs to trend downward. Over time the former is true. The latter seems to be out of control, the lower cost segment is vanishing.

Homes in most of the US get 3-phase 240v (120 0 -120) at the panel and it's split into 120v for most of the outlets. Some outlets are 240v (oven, dryer). So it's straightforward to get a 240V charger installed.
