This reminds me of the situation with the telecoms in the east europe - it's almost the same. There were no incumbents, so both internet access and private healthcare are leagues above US. It's just not comparable. Also include on

What's so novel about rubber gaskets? My Nokia 5210 from 2002 was waterproof, and its electronics were actually suspended inside shock-absorbing case so that it survived being thrown against a wall repeatedly.

It's been known since 90s for plain ccns, and, well, about two years after CVC got phased in they were also broken. Besides once you submit both somewhere, you're potentially toast. 2 factor auth without, or better with disposable

District heating is hell. Most ex-Soviet/Warsaw pact countries tried to move from district to direct gas, or small CCGT plants (as in one for about 10000 people) exactly for this reason: maintenance is hell and losses are enormous. And

What holding tanks? They would have to be by the volume about the equal of where you'd discharge them. This is just sad.

Yeah, no. It spews NOx and the whole bunch of undesirable things like dioxines. You don't get pure PET and oxygen in, and you don't get pure CO2+H2O out. It's messy to the point that it's debatable if it's better ju

Nothing eliminates anything. It's all CxHy + zO2 -> nCO2 + mH2O There is such thing called second law of thermodynamics. The only question is into how much stages we can split this process, and how much useful stuff we can extract f

Cloud albedo? Its effects depending on surface temps? Cloud cover changes wrt local climate change? Do you have any sources for that?

You forgot the albedo effect of the clouds. On both sides - top and bottom. This has not ever been modelled to my knowledge. And it is very complicated.

IDK about what SA had to offer back back then. Diamonds? Gold? Thing is, Russia lived all those years on gas and oil export mainly. Which isn't exactly a great proposition nowadays.
