Batteries are no-go. Typical electric locomotive is like 5MW sustained for multiple hours. It wouldn't be able to pull just its own batteries for any reasonable distance. 60 miles of catenary is way cheaper than wasting energy pulling

Well, you up the voltage and go AC, losses then become manageable. The move from 1.5KV DC to 25KV AC in Europe was about that exactly (many caveats apply, but it's basically that, a solved problem). If it's a somewhat loaded segm

You know, Geneva Convention can't divert a bomb. Couple of 1000lb bombs misplaced, some confusion and you can't stop it, only watch. Has to be a very unfortunate hit, but shit happens. Compared to that, the Zaporoshya nuclear plan

Rio Doce was 43.7 million cubic metres and 18 deaths. If someone blows up Kakhovka dam in Ukraine, it'll be about 18e9 m3, hundreds of thousands dead, wholesale destruction of everything downstream, shutdown of every energy plant that

Microtiks aren't boosters, it's just a dish with LTE modem in the focus. If they aren't approved (and I can see why - just because no one at Mikrotik can be bothered) -- then use a sat-tv dish and a modem. Surely those are av

Ew, using flat panel antenna and cables for a fixed installation is just wasting signal. Use something like Microtik LHG 4G, or just about anything parabolic with the modem in the focus, it'd be much more faster and reliable. I did th

Yeah, classic cars and also all the rest of most things. Where do you think all the plastic stuff originates? Natgas and oil to the point that fuels are becoming a byproduct. Edit: why Germany is now so troubled about Russian gas? Not becau

That only means that the Apple Messages model is outdated and a replacement is hereby being required. If Apple prefers lock-in over innovation, it's their problem, not the users'.

Based on experiences with 72hp Suzuki SV650 all you need to do is grip the front brake and give it some gas. Digs asphalt at about 5mm/sec just fine. The tire gets totalled pretty fast too. So it's not rubber being too soft.
