Just from my point of view: Code that is a bit on the messy side is perfectly fine if the qualification of "This is a learning exercise" is attached.

They simply show a desire to learn. Too many devs are happy to reach a comfortable level and coast forever there. I’m sorry, but side projects, especially simple ones, have been a great hiring metric.

Why not just put all of this learning code online? A side project doesn’t have to be Twitter in a weekend.

But quality side projects are quite helpful in identifying a valuable engineer. A lack of them is not a warning sign either.

Invoking eslint-disable needs to have comment of it's own justifying why the line in question is being skipped. What use is the linter if we just disable it everytime it complains?

I'm looking for comments and discussion with quality on par with HN. Reddit, generally, does not provide that.

Any plans to add a comment system? Edit: I'm excited by the idea of a crypto focused HN-ish site, I'd love if there was a comment system :)

Perhaps then your definition of 'expert' is incorrect? Would it not be that the ones who saw it coming were really the experts? And those who laughed at them were anything but? I would argue that those who laughed at the doomsa

I don’t think we disagree. There’s plenty of tastemakers, just an overwhelming amount of noise to cut through.

In other words we are now optimizing for people who have talent AND are good self promoters....rather than just talent. Record labels, at one point, excelled at identifying and developing talent. I’m not convinced that this brave new worl

There’s no lack of “tastemakers” in music. The problem is the absolute flood of garbage produced in bedroom studios. Cutting through the noise to find what’s good has become near impossible for everyone. Popular music used to focus on sce

AirDrop on Mac solves this problem. But how do you propose getting Microsoft and Apple to implement a cross platform standard when they have financial incentive to not do so? Cloud storage is the best answer, even though it is an extra te

All of the options I listed are cross platform. Why must a standard exist in this case? FTP is standard and cross platform. This is nothing more than a UX problem.

There are numerous better options than a usb drive: Email, cloud storage, almost any messaging client, etc.

We live in a world where the near-ish future could bring us asteroid mining. Something that could devastate the rarity of abundance of gold.

Exactly. The thing that I've struggled to explain to others is just how exhausting those coping mechanisms can be. I've lost count of how many times I've had to explain "No, I'm not shy, I'm just completely e

I definitely isolated myself as a kid and poured myself into tech. I much preferred to hang out on IRC rather than face to face. At least on IRC I could say what I wanted without pouring a great deal of energy into saying it. I know what

I'm curious if any others with a stutter have had a similar experience as myself. I've always had a severe stutter, and spent many years in speech therapy learning to deal. I'm fairly good at managing it, using many of the

You don’t seem to understand what a monopoly is. Tell me a single category in which apple is a monopoly. High profit margin != monopoly.

To me, this is the true damage the president is doing: hanging Americans out to dry. We’re supposed to be there for our own, not spitting in their face when they’re down and out. This only divides us more.
