If you want to talk about Covid “Two weeks to slow the spread” was the foundational lie that they told that did more damage than almost any lie I can remember. That is solid truth right there.

My parents tried but they know about as much about technology as a typical boomer so by the time I was in high school it became totally ineffective.

The trump administration in the US also frames its crackdown on civil society in terms of "accountability for lies". But I guess its fine when your side does it.

They have failed to have a sensible industrial and energy policy, leading to around net 0 GDP growth since 2019. I’m sure for the degrowth elites though this is not a failure it is working as intended.

German electricity prices are around €0.38/kwh based on my quick googling which is roughly $0.44/kwh. I pay $0.12-0.13/kwh in the US so I’m at least right factually up to rounding.

I just bought a consumer AMD B850 board that supports ECC when I built my NAS in early October. I also got 32GB of ECC memory for $180 which is a distant memory today lol.

Well that’s on you for living in the failed state of Germany, where power is 3-4x as expensive as it is in sensible countries like the US.

Most people on this website can run a Minecraft server themselves for their kids and their kids' friends. That seems to be the way to go tbh.

Look man I’m a PhD economist I know the difference between monopolistic competition and collusion. All that price fixing does is transfer monopoly rents from you and me to the DRAM cartel (or whatever industry is doing the price fixing).

DRAM manufacturers have literally been convicted of price fixing in the past why do you have to white knight for them?

That’s more or less how iMessage works when you send a file. It encrypts the file on your device, uploads it to iCloud, and then sends a link and the decryption key as an iMessage (so it’s E2EE) to the recipient.

I just tested this with Deepseek in Nvidia's AI sandbox and in Groq (so the inference was performed in the US) and it happily told me what happened on June 4, 1989. Stop spreading disinformation.

There’s a fundamental difference between water ending up in a tomato which is shipped across the world and leaves permanently and water that evaporates and rains down later. Regardless of whatever names you call me that is true.

But that water remains in the water cycle. With agriculture the water goes into the crops and is then shipped off to other places, exiting the water cycle of its origin.

Of course it’s fake. The datacenters aren’t consuming the water as part of their operation they are using it as a supersized version of a custom loop PC. I worry though that the fact that people seem to see political upside in claiming this

I bought 3x22TB WD Red Pros to put into a RaidZ1 vdev so I'll be good for a while. I have a clear upgrade path all the way up to 8 drives with 2x vdevs in a pool but that is something for far future me to consider.
