Other parts of the Rust ecosystem have had great luck using work-stealing queues. There's a talk about how Rayon did this[1] and a good article about using it in Stylo[2], a new CSS engine written by Mozilla. [1] https://www

This code compiles just fine. It doesn't do anything since immutable references are Copy, and so dropping them doesn't do anything. https://play.rust-lang.org/?version=stable&mode=debug&editio...

A lot of the trade-offs in picking a fixed size array versus a heap allocated array can be solved with a container that supports small vector optimization! You see this in C++'s std::string type, which leads some people to use it for s

Usernames changing is important in a world where peoples' identities change. People transition and might not want a username based on their deadname. People get married or divorced and change their legal name, which can have ramificati

I think the net amount of code ends up being pretty much the same, it's just spread over several repositories/sources/owners. That does mean it's more difficult without tooling to trawl through, but it's not like it

Claiming that Rust is a language for 'The Elite' is amusing in light of the recent Rust website redesign, with the following headline[1]: > Empowering everyone to build reliable and efficient software. The language is entirely

Rendering an anchor in the place of an image in case I don't have JavaScript enabled doesn't feel very good. I'd much rather have image solutions that fail gracefully if the JS on my page is broken or the user just has it dis

Some of the other 101 crossings in the Bay Area (3rd Ave/101 in San Mateo, Hillsdale Blvd/101 in San Mateo at least) are lightless and are really dangerous for both cyclists and pedestrians.

The big issue with inside-out tracking isn't precision, it's occlusion. While with an outside-in tracking system my hands needs line of sight to one or more sensors, inside-out tracking systems require line of sight to my head! Th

You're still going to run into the same problem between old/new processes and message types mismatching with dynamic typing, it's just going to be implicit. I think that this ideas generalizes pretty well. Just because a lang

Rust's procedural macros let you write Rust code that generates Rust code. In combination with tools like quote, it's just a much clunkier version of the same thing that Terra offers!

Most popular Git frontends (GitHub and GitLab too, I believe) let you link to commits with just the first 5-6 characters of the hash. I don't think that's much different to remember than a Perfore CL number.

In such a world we'd still need compilers to compile code _to_ WebAssembly -- it isn't really a great source language to work in.

If your function doesn't throw errors now, but does in the future, that's an API breakage. Using `Result` types as your only mode of error handling makes that API contract explicit.

I don't think there's any reason to use this for Rust, honestly. You'll want to unify your dependencies using `cargo doc` and then just browse std documentation on https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/ (and oth
