The first thing that needs to be done in this situation is to stop working overtime. By working overtime and completing everything that needs to be done you are sending the message "yes, everything is fine, we got this". If you st

That is because the languages are different and choose different tradeoffs. The tradeoffs might make a language inapplicable in your domain. Rust has always been marketed as a "systems programming language". C++ is Rust's clo

I work in such an environment. My advice is to: 1. push for tooling such as linters, formatters, static analysis etc. which reduces ambiguity and discussion based on personal preferences. These tools also help prevent any nitpicking comment

I repeat these exact same words on each retrospective of my new scrum team with 16 people. The amount of overhead is insane and I've simply started not showing up to some meetings and just asking for conclusions. Usually, there aren&#x

I work at one such company. The amount of resources thrown into X is disturbing, and any attempts to discuss benchmarking changes so that the useleness of X can be revealed are shut down aggresively.

Well, you proposed converting SQL architecture to NoSQL with the goal of adding caching. So how would you add caching in the NoSQL case? What prevents you from doing the same with SQL?

Why not simply add caching to the existing SQL solution?

I did AoC2020 with C++ and did it in a enterprise, over-the-top, well-structured way. E.g. need to find two items whose prices sum up to 123? Implement a multidimensional knapsack just in case you need it later (spoiler: I did need it). If

Geniuenly curious, what downsides do you see with a single, reference implementation? I come from C++ world where we have several competing compilers, each slightly different from the other, and all this incurs a non-negligible maintenance

C++ has a standard that is thousands of pages long and I needed to look something up in it exactly zero times. On the other hand, I encountered hundreds of segfaults and race conditions and unlike Rust the well defined C++ language did noth

From my anectodal experience latest GCC tends to be sligthly/noticeably faster than Clang when compiling C++. I predict the same for Rust - slightly faster but still slow overall since its such a complex language.

My programming teacher told me: "operator precedence is complicated, always use parenthesis if you have multiple operators in a single expression". I simply do that, and nobody complained so far :)

If besides best possible performance you also value ergonomics, security, maturity and tooling then IMO nothing comes close to C++, especially C++17 and later. Not that there is much choice really, only C and Rust can realistically get you
