Depends what's being watched, but quite often with content like How-To's, conference talks, and lectures etc I take advantage of having speed control on a keypress ('[' or ']' = +/- 10%), left arrow to ski

Better to just grab the widely supported AAC (m4a) audio, than perform a lossy to lossy transcode to mp3 if quality matters. For speech (lectures etc) low bitrate Opus sounds great and saves space when/where it matters, but isn't

For Youtube (and most others) I usually just paste the URL to `mpv` (using youtube-dl under the hood) to take advantage of it's keyboard shortcuts for easy control over speed and position etc. I might be playing through a video really

Just be aware there are some caveats when using awk to operate on large numbers. GNU awk has the -M option to handle precision arithmetic, but where you can't use `gawk`, `bc` may be safer afterall.

I'm right-handed, but for decades have used the phone in my left hand -- I found this to be useful at an early job that often required taking notes whilst on the phone, so I optimised behaviour for that and the habit stuck. When early

I feel this could be optimised further: how about emailing the CEO's secretary a PDF, and asking them to print it (on heavy but plain paper), put it in an envelope and deliver it with the rest of CEO's mail.

Another much appreciated advantage of 24 bit is that it allows so much extra headroom:- when recording, levels can be set so the peaks hit maybe -18 -- -12dB(FS) which helps eliminate any chance of clipping in unexpected circumstances.

Comparing the X1 carbon or other ultra-portables in the X series with an XPS15 isn't really fair - and the 16GB is a limitation of Intels mobile ('U' series) processors, hence the same issue with Apple. A fairer comparison to

This kind of Ultrasonic tracking i.e listening for a set of specific frequencies that are too high for most humans to perceive is much less complex then actual speech recognition, and consequently much more pragmatic.
