Geez, that's really harsh. I don't think any single thing you've claimed is factually wrong, and I don't speak for Eleuther nor am I attempting to justify their claims. But. As I understand it (mostly from lurking on the

You can do this with sound. A hybrid system even better. I built tech ~10 years ago to track quiet, sound emitting objects in real time to sub CM resolution using microphone arrays. And in one demo I even had a laser pointer mounted on a

Every time I've needed something like this (3 times in my career, though none in the past 5 years) I've ended up having to implement it from scratch. Depending on the topology of the data, different metrics are used and you can ma

Minor sticking point, I want to object to the prefix "with k8s, it's become a cinch...". In my experience, this prefix is only true when followed by phrases such as "shoot yourself in the foot", "over complic

Me too! But the thing is, a vanilla C library can be used by anything . It's the lowest common denominator. I can easily call into a C library from Python, Perl,... MATLAB... and I don't know JavaScript but I bet it's not

Amen to this! I too got really excited until I saw it was JavaScript. For me to use it I'd have to link against some sort of JavaScript interpreter (ew) and probably incur performance penalties shoveling the data too and fro. Can

This is great advice. I'd say do exactly this, PLUS, accept it in the end, regardless, because non-competes are invalid in CA. (provided it's a CA job).

I wonder too. Ask a lawyer! I've had the (dis)pleasure of dealing with employment lawyers, and it's amazing the stuff we don't know, that they do, and works in our favor.

If you, or the company, is in California go ahead and sign it. Non-competes are not valid or enforceable in the state of California. I am not a lawyer, but when faced with a very similar situation, the lawyer I sought advice from told me t

This is the worst and most depressing thing I have seen in a long time. Remember when we used to write software? The turtle stack is way too high.

Exactly. I question if this sort of strictly tiered approach is really the best. We're all gonna have to get it in the end, so why not err on the side of higher throughput? I'd happily queue early (and do a volunteer shift) to g
