Mostly, I want to hear that they know that their idea is not the end of their contribution -- that they are going to spend as much time as I spend on technical things getting market validation, building traction, creating content, acceptanc

eBay and Google stock is available for anyone with cash. You'd have to get acquired with pre-IPO stock for it to make a difference.

I also signed up for Buffer, which has a really nice Chrome extension that adds "Add to Buffer" to some popular sites, including HN.

You don't have to do a newspaper. Generate a one-time, expiring string, like "Q8uZ3" -- they have to write it on a card and take a picture of their face with the card underneath. They have 30 minutes before it expires.

I only see evidence of one kind of feedback, which, I hope, was expected, so it's not very useful. It's not growth hacking if you don't grow something you care about (e.g. users not "naming" discussions).

Sure, it's useful -- in fact, I really need to schedule tweets, but have been procrastinating in finding one. This post made me do the 3 second google search and I chose http://twuffer.com -- not a great name, but free, easy and has the

You have a right to name it what you want. If you have goals related to other people using, forking, improving, etc, then this name will make that harder. For example, in Showing to HN, you probably wanted some frank feedback. Your name is

The list of questions at the end are gold. One trick that works for me is to see if there's some way I can help the event -- this works better for smaller ones -- get involved ahead of it a little. That way, when you get there, there's usu

If by "marketing" you mean "understanding what the market really wanted and then making it", then I agree.

As a programmer with absolutely no interest in fashion, I found "Project Runway" to be the closest thing to watching a programming reality show. They talk about design and construction, and how they interrelate. If you can get past the obv

I like Steve Blank's definition of a Startup -- it's an enterprise set up to search for a profitable business model. 37signals is long past that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I agree that it's part of paleo culture to be careful with intolerances, so I would want to support that if I could figure out how.

The future of the app is journal sharing. To prepare for that it helps to build a homogenous user base. Also, I have more Paleo features coming. There will be a paleo food starter DB and other features that will differentiate it from generi

Exactly. I intend the ratings to be your personal standard. Later I'll have ways for you to use your own data, and optionally, shared data.

The idea is that as you track and rate, your personal data will be the best thing to base these features on. That's not in yet, but that's he plan. This is a 1.0 to get you tracking.

This version is mostly tracking with twitter for sharing. I am building out a backend for sharing right now. I intend the app to be hired for two jobs: motivation in sticking to the diet and recommending paleo meals. Tracking and sharing ar

It helped me a lot to journal. When I do, I'm much more strict. This has been a finding generally with lots of habits. I tried to make the app specific to paleo because the journaling opens up possibilities if I know the domain of the jour

"domain specific" means something like, your code implements the thing you spent the last 10 years becoming an expert on, which you hopefully understand to such a degree that expert coding will be no help in trying to replicate it.

Scalability isn't about it being faster, just "able to be scaled". Sometimes it's about being able to make it faster by adding hardware and configuration.

I think CL is worried that their bandwidth would start going down as people start putting their apartment listings in PadMapper instead of CL because CL doesn't have any apartment listings any more.

Could it just be a badly written search spider? The ad is simply an anchor tag around an image. If you didn't filter it out specifically, you would just "click" it to get to another page.

If you charge enough (and in a recurring way), you learn to like calls from insufficiently technically skilled people. It's a kind of lock-in -- surely, no one else would put up with this. You also learn how to deal with it efficiently. T
