It is a lot in computer time as well. The other gem in that thread IMHO is how they marketed Dropbox as a replacement for USB thumb drives (which it also is, but it just goes to show how niche the concept of cloud was 11 years ago).

Most algorithms related to computer vision and image processing come to mind. Of course there are efficient libraries written in general-purpose languages, but DSLs could lead to smaller, easily maintainable codebases.

Nice idea, but more robust checksums would be better ( especially for archives containing code).

Irony was a double-edged sword in this case. Sure, the Greek city-states were now subject to Rome. On the other hand, Roman civilization was deeply affected by Greek culture, which was arguably far superior. Horace said it best: Graecia ca

This begs the question: What best practices can significantly reduce blunders and are (more or less) portable across languages? In my opinion, a good start is learning to use filter/map/reduce instead of big nasty for loops.

By the way, "opinion formation" is a pretty well-established area of research in theoretical computer science that studies stuff like this. You start with a graph where each node has some opinion that might change based on that of

Trajan is actually well-known in Italy, thanks to an eponymous column in Rome that depicts his conquers [1]. The popular Trajan typeface [2] comes from the inscription at the base of that column. [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org

Yes! We do it all the time, even more often than necessary. Like, you could say "Set foo to 0" as "Setta foo a zero" and IT people will understand you, although "settare" is not even a verb (the correct transla

Just being nitpicky here, but F# is not "purely" functional (and is not "pure-functional" either). But its OO subset is fairly small indeed.

In my opinion, The problem with Eclipse is not that it turned into a plugin framework, but that it ended up being an IDE framework. Too many knobs. All IDEs are customizable to some degree, but they try and maintain a general sense of coher

The neat thing is that PAR and SEQ do not compose mere operations; they compose other CSP processes . This gives CSP a very regular, self-similar structure. (The "basic" processes are just the send/receive of a value over a
