I have two ways of reframing this that help me: Every time you find yourself comparing yourself to someone richer, also pick out someone poorer and compare yourself to them at the same time. Should that poorer person be a ton more miserable

I have frequently had code like this: if other < mine: update_comments(other, mine) write_billing(other) and then I paste it, but get the indentation wrong on the last line, and it falls outside of the if block

Do you never move code around? Especially moving things into and out of loops? That was my experience in Python. -> These statements need to be in this other loop. -> Cut...paste -> Reindent -> Turn my brain to extreme paranoia,

You can do similar types of work, but target speed increases instead. Getting all the batch jobs to finish faster can help developer productivity, and is even worthwhile at a new startup.

Linux is a different beast, and the big variety of choices you get is a special thing about Linux and not a detriment. If you're not sure what to use, just use Ubuntu. It's a great default distro.

Yes, and for all adults we should too. It shouldn't be possible to take out so much debt on such bad terms that you fuck up your life. Bankruptcy should be available for these cases, and lenders should be responsible for checking that

Same reason math uses letters rather than words. It's easier to pattern match strings that are short. Having one `mr`/`mw` is confusing, but taking up whole lines with long strings can obscure the logic of the code.

Very interesting. This reminds me a ton of L4, with its message passing style. I'm curious if it was inspired by L4. It's a great talk, and my only disappointment was that I was hoping to hear about what comes after. After watchin
