I'm using woocommerce with a bunch of home built extras. As for the expense: there's no comparison, we crunched the numbers. The problem is also there's a bunch of custom functionality needed and Shopify plugins do not cut it

Because it's very expensive, she requires a fair amount of customization due to the type of business that would put the price really through the roof, and she has free labour in the form of her husband :)

Web dev is not my daily job but I maintain my wife's e-commerce store on the side. I've brushed up enough with react and vue to know their idioms, and I agree with you, and this is why I tend to reach for vue if I can use it. It r

Genetic, immutable, etc, I see absolutely no advantage in how we define the basic concept. There are all sorts of things that are immutable that we don't accept as a society, so saying sexual orientation is immutable solves absolutely

It never made sense. Hitler (yes, sorry to go there) also thought that homosexuality was genetic, which is why it made sense to him to mass murder homosexuals. Something being genetic/inherent has very little to do with whether it shou

I don't understand the hate systemd gets honestly, except around some very corner concerns. I remember the old init systems and don't want to go back. Piles of shell scripts with absolutely no standardization, each doing its own t

I like the BSD simplicity, but it's not just hardware, it's software. I want to spin up an X stack in docker? Can't do that, docker doesn't work. There's jails but without any image repositories I'm trading a l

Sure there is, the Debian project. I never understood the whole reverence for RHEL, when an alternative has lived alongside it for the whole time and longer. I've been using Debian since '97 or '98, and with one (glaring) exc

I wonder if snaps will actually survive. The history of Ubuntu specific innovations seems to be that they invariably fail. But it's never not for the lack of trying, so it only makes sense that Ubuntu is trying to push this on the user

Eastern European here who wonders how the Ottoman rule was a thousand years ago. The Ottoman colonization lasted some 500 years for us and ended in late 19th and early 20th centuries, depending. Btw, I agree with your general point that col

I think it's quite simple: many vegetarians have no idea of the conditions in an average dairy farm. I was vegetarian for a number of years before I went vegan. I had assumed dairy cows had it reasonably good and it was quite a shock t

It's more generic than that. For basic general purpose computing with some calculation and where performance is of some importance, I can design and ship the whole thing via something like Lazarus in 5-10 MB, or -- from my understandin

I've been thinking about jumping on the Julia ship for a while. I like the LISP-like nature of R and miss its flexibility very much while working in Python (a language I also enjoy, but not particularly for data science). Julia, specif

Pascal was the first language I played around with after Amiga era BASIC. I still don't really understand why it faded into relative obscurity. To this day, I feel like it's close to a perfect language. It's fast, it's p
