Anecdotally, this weekend I've seen 4 (non-technical) friends throw $500 - $5,000 into the three CoinBase coins this weekend, all individually. Before this weekend, they were merely familiar with Bitcoin but no interest in investment,

I currently love both Go and Lisp. They are the opposites of each other. And good for different things.

Re "suck it up". I think you brought up two extremes: a stranger, and a loved one. But if my friend tells me to suck it up, I don't get offended, I'll just take it as an informed suggestion. And he'd usually be righ

Thanks for the reply. So, if you're injured, it still hurts. But what changes is your response, mentally. You gain the ability to peacefully endure, even study, the pain because you're smarter than it? And this ability comes as a

I think the data types look fine. If I'm using such a database, I don't think I want the CRDT data types to be abstracted away behind some general-purpose (SQL?) interface. Can that even be done? I'd rather just pay the small

Yeah Go is weird in that its static type system doesn't to provide you with great static typing power but instead it's just there as a sort-of sanity checker. If there's logic, they say write it with data structures and fun

Perhaps scope wasn't the right word. I think we agree. If Reason is to be considered a general purpose language, then Elm is DSL for web apps. In that domain, it tries to be all you need, which is what my context of scope was. Reason i

Nope I meant wider, with respect to what responsibilities they take on. Elm does more stuff. It's a language and framework/architecture for building apps. Reason is just a language, though with a more powerful type system, which p

I keep reiterating this point, but people keep calling React complex, it's not. React is raw simplicity. As far as I'm aware it's the most minimal API for creating sufficiently complex UIs. It's so minimal that it's
