I kinda agree that "fairness", even though a valid issue, seems receive a disproportional amount of attention. The central dangers, apart from misuse, seem to be a coordination problem and a control problem. The coordination probl

Even though that may be true it is not clear there is a way out that does not jeopardize millions of existences/sources of purpose and meaning for millions of people. Without a careful plan out it will be a disaster. It's a comple

It is not only unsatisfying to ML researchers, but pretty much everyone. We are mere prediction machines and AI is going to render us dispensable bags of meat using an embarrassingly simple algorithm that you could explain a bright child wi

Is Google really any better? They may simply be better at hiding their surveillance apparatus. We need to decentralize, i.e. destroy large non-decentralized organizations.

This is an interesting question. Likely more than 0.1%, perhaps 20-40% I'd guess. Which would be the lower estimate I provided.

Real neurons have many other trainable parameters and a lot more computational structure, so this is of course a simplifying assumption, but it is not entirely baseless either as it is known ANNs can approximate any function in theory, whic

It seems it has (rudimentarily) learned concepts general enough to be logic itself. That is general intelligence. Now hook it up to reinforcement circuitry and make it even larger and it will mark the end to life as we know it. GTP-3 has 17

This is a compression artifact. You cannot process everything that is going on, so your brain fills in the missing or uncertain parts with a similar (abstract) computation that it already has experienced in a similar manner. It is abstract

Fair enough. But if "mental exhaustion" is not some serious impediment, then not sure this is worth talking about. Not seeing much evidence here.

Because softer shadows add to the realism, so they would have used them if they had invented a new efficient ray tracing method! Look at 5:12 in the video. The shadows are way too sharp. It's probably good old shadow mapping for the fi

I'm not seeing much evidence for this being helpful. Inclusion attempts I've seen where largely failures and there were no pilot projects so it seems all of this was seemingly (well-intentioned) politicking.

The simplest rule is people should cohabit peacefully. AFAIK there is no evidence that this is enabled by more exposure. People assort themselves by IQ for a good reason: Most people have a natural desire to dominate and the lower IQ person
