It does make a difference on some operating systems. Specifically DOS (and by extension, Windows, at least sometimes. As usual with Microsoft it gets complicated). When enabling text mode transfers in these systems, newlines gets translated

Many array languages do have this issue. To be precise, the issue is that the simple straightforward approach tends to compute a lot more than necessary. It's of course possible to do it in a different way to deal with that issues but

There is no need to have a specific keyboard. The actual solution depends on what APL you're using, but the principle is the same. The various symbols are available on the regular keys, and you use some way to indicate that you want th

While I am the author of one of those one-man projects, I would like to point your attention towards BQN. It started as a one-man project, but isn't anymore. As much as I would like people to look at my implementation, if you want to p

Probably because the idea of the standards group was that you already had REMOVE and COMPLEMENT, so there was no need for it. These days the function is usually called filter, but I'm not sure it was a commonly used term then.

I loved summer of code and participated every year. Then one year they changed the system and all of a sudden it was no longer possible to submit in any language. Like everything else by Google they had become boring. The best part of summe

I'm on mobile now right now and can't really test, but one thing that a lot of versions of this game gets wrong is that they omit the feature to be able to dig without moving. On the C64 this is done by pressing the button while m

They tried that with their Singapore office and the landlord just walked the staff out of the building. Apparently that caused them to pay up pretty quickly. https://news.yahoo.com/twitter-employees-escorted-singapore-...

My notation is based on APL2, and includes some extensions from Dyalog. On top of that is new syntax to support first class functions and some other things. The syntax for defining functions is also a bit different, but better in my opinion

That happened to me back when I bought my T490. Later they released a firmware update that fixed it. So the only case where I saw such issue, Lenovo fixed it quickly.

As someone who has spent quite some time developing a new APL dialect (with plenty of features that are not normally found in APL dialects), I'd love to hear more about what you'd like to see improved.

36 bits is very neat, and used by several machines including the PDP-10. The smallest unit doesn't have to be a single character.

Unless things have changed lately, it's still very annoying to get your Gnu COBOL program interacting with the test of your system. Something as simple as reading a file is a lot harder than you'd expect. And opening a TCP connect

It took many years until MP3 decoding on a stock Falcon was possible. While the machine was generally available, there was no MP3 implementation, and the belief was that it was impossible.

Wait, was that popular? Now, I was mostly into the C64 and later Atari ST, with some insight into other platforms, but I don't think I've ever heard about an external MP3 decoder. On what's platform was this available? The cl

There was no FPU for the 68000. This was supported by the 68010, which was not present in any Atari computers. Are you sure he didn't add it for the Falcon, which did have a slot for an FPU.
