There have always been lots of ideas. The issue is the management consultants and finance took over.

And federal law said states other than Nevada and New Jersey had to ban gambling. The court said they can’t do that. They could ban gambling nationwide in federal law.

The court ruling was a good one, and anticipated. The federal government can either allow all gambling, or ban it all. They can’t pick and choose states where it may be allowed.

I had fun on both sides of that process. As both a candidate and interviewer I prefer the in person whiteboard because it makes it more clear this is about ideas, not exact syntax.

I thought this discussion was limited to situations where you care about code quality

I feel like the balance has shifted over the last 30 years, and is speeding up. Semi-automatic and fully automatic re-factoring has made dealing with duplicated code much faster, cheaper and safer. Changing abstraction is still high risk.

Consider the counter factual. The site does not exist, the people who found it (probably via search) end up at Amazon directly with no referral fee.

IME many people are in it for the love of the game. They want to get better, they want to be able to perform the “magic” the Sr people come up with. It’s fun.

One possibility is it makes grasping these points quickly even more important. IME new grad hires are break even effort for me for the first 6-9 months. If it’s clear they will become positive after that I put more effort into helping them

And sometimes the yak shaving side quest yields big improvements that were not even on the radar. Good engineering intuition, the ability to learn new code/systems quickly and the ability to quickly validate ideas is extremely valuable

And as you approach that point you should have fleet wide profiling (sample based) so it’s clear what’s worth improving.

CRSP publishes the index used by VTI. They changed their rules to lower the float requirement.

It’s the absurd governance and obvious manipulation of inclusion rules and limited float.

Look at the doc (from Iran), the things covered by the “insurance” have only ever happened (in the straight) due to Iran.

I don’t think that’s true. They support OS verification for windows and Mac. If Firefox implemented verification (I doubt they would) and there was customer demand I think they would support it.

I think it's just that some of the device policy restrictions the Org admin can choose to enable don't work in FF. So if they require them, no FF.

Is it not: https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/security/create... The Org admin can put all sorts of restrictions on who can do what based on the client device setup.

Yep. The owner assigns much higher value to leasing to a large national chain. They often hold out for one, refusing to lease to more risky businesses.
