One plane getting hacked and crashing into something will be enough to create a wave of panic like never seen before. Look what a few planes hitting a few buildings did when you could see the perpetrators . Now imagine what happens when

Did you actually look at the article? It's just some random guy doing some scripting. He's not using any modern perl stuff so it's not interesting for perl fans. It's certainly not interesting for the rest of us who don't care about perl

Again, my comment isn't about the article.

Companies always ask for more than they need, just as candidates often claim more experience than they actually have. Don't be intimidated by what they say they want.

I wouldn't have them do utterly useless jobs like this, but rather government jobs that need doing but don't take years of training. There will always be some churn of unemployment anyway, we should take advantage of it. Why hire someone

I didn't see anything very controversial for Hacker News. Perhaps for perlmonks.

I didn't mean what he said was, I meant posting it here was. It's 5 paragraphs about some guy scripting. Who cares? Are we going to start posting Yahoo answers about perl next? How about IRC logs?

Please don't say that. The people who are into it are too loud as it is. If someone popped up every now and then and said "Yea, it was a great ride into work this morning with my horse & buggy." Of course most people's response is go

TL;DR: I sometimes need to do some scripting and I use perl because I know it. So what? Flagged. This is blatant fanboy nonsense. Nothing remotely of interest here.

It's no more puzzling than the people who keep on trying to bring perl into every conversation, make sure there is some mostly irrelevant perl story on the front page, etc. I wouldn't expect Hacker News to care much about the language, but

You think a bomb blowing up a plane is more scary than a plane just randomly deciding to fly into something? I don't. Plane control hacking is vastly more scary than bombs because one break means someone on the other side of the earth can

It sounds like Apple wants apps to stop cheating by redirecting to a browser. Personally I do find this annoying about the Kindle App. I would prefer to do my purchasing inside the app. In my opinion the solution is for apple to not charg

NASCAR isn't a legitimate sport, it's a spectacle. Any time one car gets too far in front of the others a restart is issued. Various owners have openly admitted they do this "for the fan's excitement".

I don't find IKEA cheap at all. If you get their cheap offerings (where the so called "savings" are) it's garbage that will barely last a year. If you get something decent it costs at least as much as any other store or more.

The US spends over 700 billion dollars a year on the military. It wouldn't take that much to fully cover everyone.
