I believe it too. My dad's seen some crazy tenant behavior as well: serial scammers, grow-ops, massive humidity damage from the raising of illegal 3m-long African pythons... in Canada btw.

I think you're conflating different definitions of "profit". There's at least three important ones: 1) Accounting profit: revenue - expenses. This is colloquially what most people mean when they say "profit"

For me, "made bed" just means re-aligning the sheets/blankets/pillows so that nothing is tangled or crumpled up, but never any extra nonfunctional things (no tucking, no tiny decorative cylinder pillows that no one ever

I believe the plan is to release an Idris2 edition of the book. The Idris2 repository currently has all of the book code as part of its test suite and is making progress towards compiling all of it (currently 12 of the 15 chapters).

I'm not an expert, but yes compile times can get crazy if you're not careful. In theory, the situation is no different from (ab)use of C++ templates, the Rust macro discussed here, and so on. In practice, whereas C and Rust will

Here's my experience based off of getting pretty good at playing combat flight sims. First of all, the propellers on some of these larger planes are pretty huge. Look at this schematic for a Corsair... the propeller sweeps out an area

Separate version control for code vs assets leads to a world of pain. Also you can use whatever diff tool you want; doesn't have to be the built-in textual diff.

I'm 34, male. I feel like I just feel less as I age, both positive and negative. No crying, less anger, but also less giddy joy, less vivid imagination. When I was a child or teenager I could read a book and be the character. N

Try `emacs -nw -q` for a stock experience. That should have no problem with any reasonable text file.

(Just because this is hn...) You'd need a 33% growth in population to offset a 25% reduction in pollution, 100% growth to offset a 50% reduction, and so on.

Basically, banks charge each other per each transaction. To minimize the amount they have to pay, instead of requesting thousands of small transactions, they batch things up into larger overnight jobs. The other problem is that banks can

Sure you could: "that board of directors is a boys club" is not a statement about some corporation being literally run by children.

Not snarky at all... if the title properly used "burn out", I wouldn't have expected the article to be motorsports-related.

Let's further say that there exists another company that can produce the same widget with fewer emissions, but it costs $110 base price + $0 carbon tax to do so. Now the green company actually has a viable product, and consumers are i

As I understand it, currently everything points to space and time (really, spacetime) not being discrete. I'm copying and pasting a previous reply I made the last time this came up. --- I'm no physicist, but the layman explanatio

Actually the time-to-0 increases linearly with speed, but the distance required increases quadratically with speed. If you're 75 feet back at 30mph (this seems overly cautious?), you should be 300 feet back at 60mph. Basically to

How is that not how garbage collectors work? You start at a gc root and chase pointers all through memory. Then do the same thing again and again. (I'm assuming we're talking about a standard, generational mark-and-sweep gc.)

They're saying you can, at most, have two of the three, but that doesn't mean you automatically get two (or even one). Bitcoin is 0/3.
