Yeah, user experience on Google Maps app has been atrocious recently. I especially hate when I search and get cards when I want a map with placemarks on it, then try to get to the map and it forgets my search. Some designer sure went all ou

It's kind of an arms race. In the early days of iOS app development, developers would just not call the private APIs during the review period and hide them in an easter egg or enable them from the client checking with the server to see

Pretty funny story considering YouTube is back to unusable on slow connections. They used to buffer the full video, so you could load up a page, let it sit until the video buffers, then watch it eventually, maybe after reading your social n

You seem to be agreeing with the quote. Note it doesn't say no one represents them. It says no single member. Influence spread across all members isn't really going to get much work done for them as if they had their own specific

Google famously banned face recognition on Glass after I and some other developers made demo apps and APIs for using it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1aeMJY1AO0 Even now that Glass has been canceled for all but commerci

There have been a couple accessories, like pressure sensitive pens, that transmit to smart phones via infrasound via air. They aren't very reliable.

Anecdotal, but at least M preview 3 on my Nexus 6 is much worse. Hangs for a second some places, etc.. I'm a developer so I had to install it to test the new permission system in my apps, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The

I ordered a highly rated head light and tail light the other day off amazon. When it came everything was super cheap thin plastic and the head light wouldn't turn on at all even with fresh batteries. The tail light turned on once, then

That's in the same ballpark as the 25k number the article comes up with. For people who don't know, these numbers are very, very small. I wrote an app store dice puzzle game on Android no one here has heard of and it has 20x those

I think the article was pretty clear about API first being bad, and even linked to Twitter's write up of having to tear out that failure: https://blog.twitter.com/2012/improving-performance-on-twitt...

That review was pretty fun to read, actually. Doesn't sound like the book is any good, but I read 90% of the review instead of the normal 10% as I skimmed through and recognized all the games. Normally I would have stopped as soon as I

Yeah, main demo just got stuck on my 2.5GHz MBP here too. The free 3D models demo worked good, though. Must be fewer polys.

In this case, getting injected with star fish killing bacteria nutrients is probably less harmful than stepping on one of these poison star fishes themselves...so the robots are actually preferable if one or the other has to live.

I don't see anywhere in his calculations where he takes into account that the more you lean the larger the tire surface against the ground gets. Motorcycle tires are actually intentionally designed for this nowadays.

Sidechains are a kind of complex mess. After reading about them I'd definitely chalk them down to terrible, committee based software development vs. just bumping the size like the XT people want to do.
