Anecdotally, it's unheard-of to not take full advantage of paid family leave at a technology company, whether it's two months or four. There are issues around vacation, especially "unlimited PTO" as a perk, but no one

But a million dollars at age 18/21/whatever isn't. Trust fund kids still get a head start of a couple decades.

It's clear that the author wants me to dislike Sprig and like Josephine, but after reading the entire article I honestly can't articulate a single reason why other than an abstract feeling of wholesomeness. This reads like satire.

It's a real contribution. The parent poster is (humorously) making the point that if we really wanted to, we could switch to e.g. goat's milk because farming cows is particularly damaging to the environment. I understand where the

I completely understand, but reading and signing a simple contract takes 5 minutes. Preventing (yes, rare!) cases like this is worth the small overhead, IMO.

Yeah, to be clear, I'm in favor of surrendering IP to the group for an event like this, because if you split everything up at the end it'll be worthless. BUT! Terms like this need (both legally and ethically) to be explicit, and s

I think SW's stance on contracts is hugely short-sighted. SW should require that teams sign a (written) contract laying out who owns what at the end of the weekend, and offer several templates to keep the process painless. You could

You've posted this all over the thread and I don't understand it. It doesn't matter what you or I think of 0.4%. They all agreed to 0.4%. Either that agreement is honored, or all IP remains with its creator--and Bobby takes

Entitled to what? Entitled to ownership of IP he produced? Entitled to the 0.4% equity stake that they agreed upon at the beginning ? The backlash in this thread is mindboggling. The author's "attitude" seems pretty appropri

They agreed on 40 basis points in advance. That's a contract. If 40 basis points was "way too much credit" then Billy-the-idea-guy shouldn't have accepted those terms. Also, saying that X% of something is "a lot&quo

That's because you signed a contract surrendering your IP to your company. If no contract is signed, then ownership of IP you create defaults to you, as it should.

It's too late to edit my post but let me clarify the point I was trying to make to the parent poster, who responded to "having a few beers and getting on a bike" with "driving under the influence can maim or kill people.

No matter how drunk you are, it's hard to maim someone else with a bicycle. You might knock someone over, but you're really only a danger to yourself.

Whenever someone makes a point by listing groups of people, they always have to sneak in a pet issue. Looks like for you it's smoking! You say "non-smokers" but you mean "normal, default people." Smokers are the del

I often wonder how helpful messaging like this is. Although it's probably true that large-scale change is necessary, I suspect that there are a lot of potential allies out there that this kind of post turns away. Specifically, I think

This might be problematic but it isn't sexist, and the media's obsession with linking every tech story to the Pao case is getting old. If anything, this discriminates against older employees. When I was in college, there were alwa

Didn't Google just remove the confederate flag from Shopping Express and ads, not from search results? They don't sell Nazi flags in their store or (afaik) let people advertise using them, so this doesn't seem as inconsistent

How do you have "multiple backups" of a full-time, paid staff position at a company you don't work for? Perhaps the AMA mods shouldn't have let Victoria take on so much work and responsibility, but she was explicitly put
