As a developer working in Europe, I would love to work for an American company and make 30 to 50% more. But, it's difficult: - I don't really want to adapt myself to their timezone. Perhaps 1 or 2 or hours of shift from my tz, but

First, congrats! - How do you handle taxes? - Do you take your laptop everywhere? As in: if it's Sunday morning and you want to go out for a run/hiking/cycling (laptop-free) for 6 hours, can you just do it? What if any of you

I got my first walkman when I was 9. It is the best device I have owned ever (it's still working, although I don't use it anymore). The second best device is my iPod Shuffle (4th gen), which is sadly dying slowly and I can't

How do you handle domain events that are the composition of columns of different tables?

Interesting. When I started my career as a software developer I was all about gut-driven design/development: I did what felt good and discarded excess. After some years of professional experience I became a data-driven person. I felt a

Tools like Copilot will always be one step behind: as soon as we are able to avoid writing boilerplate code (auth, api endpoints, etc.), the requirements of the software we need to write go up by an order of magnitude, and there is no tool

I was expecting the author to actually give a supposedly better name other than 'plus' at the end of the post. Bummer. Perhaps there is no better name and actually 'plus' is the perfect election?

As a developer who is in the complete opposite side of how saas are developed (i.e., dependencies to a minimum, reproducible environments, boring and stable tech vs cutting edge tech, framework-agnostic core, etc.), can someone tell me: How

Do you actually need any of both? I mean, just publish your app, make it free, wait a couple of months to see if it actually gets traction and IF so, then sure go for an LLC or Corp or whatever. Otherwise why all the hassle on an app you do

A colleague of mine: "I either remove all my (useless) repositories from GitHub or I ask GitHub to pay me if they want to use my code in Copilot". It's not that crazy.

If you manage to do that, then the same question remains: "is the outer level a simulation?" We'll never get an answer that satisfies us.

Not sure why this is down voted. Perhaps in North America is different, but at least in Europe this strategy still works.

As a software developer, I wouldn't use an iPad over a MacBook. Fun note: in the new M1 models, you can't run Virtualbox either.

Agree. A bit off topic: living in a foreign country allows you to progressively discover those little differences in comparison to your own country: the way people say good morning, the way people wait (or not) for the light to turn green,

I find Ansible simple: it's just a way of sending over the wire idempotent commands. It's like bash scripts, but better. On the other hand, k8s is a best of hundreds of heads. Sure, yaml is a pita in both of them.
