This place I work at has actively fought against using Azure, but we use them because it's advantageous to the business. (or it's perceived to be). We have actively pushed for AWS or even GCP but it's futile when it doesn

AWS has capacity issues you can generally mitigate. Azure however will just lock you out of a solution completely and tell you to switch regions as if that was some trivial thing.

I'm always curious of the use cases for something like this. We manage multiple clusters but it's all done using pipelines so we don't traditionally have issues. > For standard tenants who run standard workloads like Depl

The hard part for us is figuring out how to migrate away from single server when it's used in production. It takes eternity to migrate data away from the thing, we are looking at ~24 hours just to get data out, and then we need to figu

How hard is it to get codeblocks working instead of them focusing on every use case on the planet. It's so damn terrible.

Microsoft focuses entirely on MVP (minimum viable product) and they expand their use-cases to include more features at a minimal amount of effort. Polish and use-ability don't matter when they can sell anything if it has XYZ feature. I

I think they offer a lot of best in class services, have you used the enterprise tier or just the free tier?

Hell no, I remember managing hundreds of virtual machines in datacenters & cloud, using Ansible and a myriad of other tooling. It's nice when you're at a small scale and you don't have a lot of people making changes, but

Good luck managing a labyrinth of virtual machines in a cattle friendly way like a Kubernetes cluster can without a bucket of other tooling to invest in.

Azure is a shit show all around. Our account rep recommended that we change regions from westus1 to westus2 because westus1 was legacy and that's why we were experiencing so many edge cases and bugs (lots of them). That was a year ago.

We use Cloudflare to serve ~20-30TB of traffic a month where I work. Was the SRE on call when I got paged on our blackbox monitoring/third party web checks failing.. It was very pleasant to find the cloudflare status page pointing me t

Luckily a lot of modern networking equipment has an automated rollback feature you can key off of. For instance junos based devices have a commit confirmed <time> where it will auto rollback if not confirmed after X amount of time. St

Azure doesn't really offer migrations paths, and their database migration tool has a ton of edge cases (not supported over 1tb etc) so while pg_upgrade is nice, Azure doesn't really have a path to use that. On top of that Azure po

IMHE, Bastion Hosts suck. I agree, any security standards you're going to apply to a bastion host, just apply them to your entire network if possible, add security at every layer. So many times a bastion host just serves as

A lot of the cloud providers don't bill directly for kubernetes management, instead it's just the node resources. Either way, as another comment points out, Rancher and many other solutions make the orchestration of creating your

Honestly if you use a managed kubernetes provider it's pretty simple once you nail the concepts. Though you'll get hit with cloud provider issues every now and then but it's really not terrible. I'd manage services in Ku

They have a lot of work to do before anything competes with Mac OSX terminal out of the box especially paired with Brew. WSL1 and 2 aren't super approachable even now, and the terminal (the new and old) are pretty limiting.

We have been slowly changing over to AMD instances on Azure, it's not a huge savings but it's enough to justify it unless you have a specific need for certain CPU types or licensing.

I have zero expectations from Azure support as a whole, in fact 80% of the time I'll rebuild production services in Azure to avoid having them tell me to do just that in most tickets. It is abysmal levels of actual support.
