Fine, "in general". There are more mccain states in places where income has gone up, and so on. Actually, I just graphed it, and correlation is super weak. http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=blahvs9.gif (Stupid Google Docs wouldn't p

This is kind of an interesting side effect of a closed software market. Plugins don't really exist, because its difficult to control the distribution of programs that run programs. (And its turtles allll the way down.)

For those to lazy to think about it too much... (In general) Obama does better in states that are doing poorly economically.

Freeter and neet are basically the same thing, whereas hodo hodo zoku are at least out of the house... I kind of feel they've pretty much got the whole spectrum of "don't find work enjoyable" covered. (Unless theres a way to be extra -unem

Gmail has IMAP. Google Docs has an export feature. Google Reader lets me export my subscriptions. It'd be nice if they had a one click export that'd send you a tar with all your data ever, in every reasonable format, but that's not as easy

Yes, but what about back links? I have a site that's "You have done blah. Want to return to previous blah?" Now where do I put that previous arrow? (Its made more annoying because I have lots of parallel "You are viewing an old version. Che

You know... smart folders have an equivalent in Vista as well. I'm pretty sure the new "libraries" thing is just a redesign and not an actual new feature. While I'm at it, hasn't file previews been around since Win95?

You know it was redesigned in Vista. The default work image has it set to classic (I assume because some options are difficult/impossible? to find in the "new" view). I actually prefer it. Some items are 2 clicks instead of 1, but it beats

Is this a quirk of statistical machine translation where the word English shows up in English texts where Francais would show up in French texts?

Agreed. Its as if someone wrote an article about how to do pointer manipulation chicanery and then commented "this wouldn't even be possible in Java." Its a technical "fact" of sorts here.

In addition, I assume Android has the (old) sexy that is accelerometers. So sitting at your desk or only walking a bit might not trigger it.

I kind of feel like Resig is misunderstanding what embrace and extend usually mean. (Or at least, glossing over it.) I kind of imagine it more like that Java debacle where Microsoft installed a version of Java but never updated it, severely

Every person I know that knows Ruby knows Python while the inverse is not true. Despite liking Ruby, I suggest trying out Python for the larger user base. That being said, one thing that you may prefer about Ruby is that its both more OO th

I agree, they really need to stop billing app engine as "able to run Django and other frameworks" because most of them are so neutered by the time they get anything running that they're worthless. One thing though with Django is I think its

My point here is that linear improvements don't really improve your scaling or performance in any real sense. Linear improvements are equivalent to buying hardware (or sharding), whereas I think the kind of really nice improvement you want

I'm rather unimpressed by a linear reduction in memory consumption. Mostly because its linear, and its "easy" to scale linearly (its called going and buying more RAM!)

I have an actual use for STI. I store a data grid, of which there are two types of headers. Row and column headers. (Headers must be their own object for various reasons that are rather boring). Rows and columns have identical fields. Voila
