I'm honestly (as in putting in multiple hours) trying to switch to Firefox every 4 to 5 months. I tried at least 4 times. I do the dance of migrating bookmarks, passwords, layout preferences, add-ons, workflows, setting up sync, instal

I had very good experience with Protecli ( https://protectli.com ), for both products and customer support. Seems to me both are for similar use cases. I'm using mine as firewall appliances for example.

I still ask to design Twitter, but make it clear that it's about the process, and follow ups are driven by where the candidate leads to. The material from OP won't prepare you for systems design interview (witch is also your point

Not sure what the point is here, but ... in my experience as the hiring manager I haven't seen huge success in testing a candidate whether they can do the exact thing they will be doing in the first 6 months (in software engineering).

I think you cannot really salvage this argument. The way you describe it makes it sound to me that your company's success is ore likely due to luck and not just competence. It's also not clear if you really think this is a model t

That sounds like a reasonable distinction between verbal and written as in email or memo, but chat is then in a grey area. Chat is used more often than not in a casual conversational way that does not promote a lot of thinking before writin

I have limited knowledge about Google, but this sounds overly simplistic for at least GCP. Large contracts are locked behind FedRAMP compliance, DoD ILx, and so on, and I happen to know that all large cloud providers listen very closely to

Because of this thread, I switched back to Debian on my laptop after 8 years on Ubuntu, and everything works nicely. Thanks HN!

It doesn't necessarily fix it but has less resource waste or is easier to manage than the bin packing needed otherwise.

Not sure if you are more agreeing or disagreeing with GP, but cost is not just computing cost, but also complexity and the higher risk to reliability that comes with it. JSON-RPC makes sense if one only considers the abstract case with a si

You didn't specify what you meant with "more productive", but if it means "being able to produce more code in less amount of time" then i agree that one can be faster with frameworks/Java. If you look at the pr

Key staff is probably identified by now with high certainty and those can probably negotiate a substantially better deal than what would be possible at old Twitter--if they know their worth... which is not trivial either i imagine.

It's like to counter that Google's business customers and investors see these shut down stories likely in a different light: they stopped doing something that was a distraction from core business or irrelevant. Stadia was a powerf

It sounds simple enough but it's not so easy actually. I found myself spending some time doing it, and there were enough annoyances to abandon switching to firefox. I really want to like it, it just doesn't click for me. There is

I think the author and submitter got exactly what they asked for by posting something to HN that is by their own admission low-effort as it took only 30 minutes to knock it out. Many of the commenters call this out, since in their opinion t
