The iPad Pro 2020 uses a PWM frequency of 60kHz or so, and only under 13% brightness according to NotebookCheck. This is unlikely to be a problem. True tone, iirc, is a simple color temperature adjustment of the screen. I wonder what happen

More on the technical side of this, solving the PWM LEDs issue isn't actually as easy as it may seem to begin with. It comes down to 1) Analog is hard, and so is high speed PWM 2) Some engineers (and online engineering resources) belie

I remember this from a few years ago when it was posted to HN. I remember it for originally shipping with a really good clone of the macOS windowing system down to the three colored buttons - when you clicked them the buttons popped out to

Amazon sells Leviton (a good/common brand) electrical outlets that support USB C power delivery for ~40USD. You can install one, and connect a USB C PD to DC cable ~20USD to power your LEDs. Your LEDs have to be 30W or less though.

Out of curiosity, does the use of OSB on the surface contribute much to indoor formaldehyde levels? Growing up, my parents avoided buying furniture or houses made of composite wood materials with lots of exposed glue out of concerns of offg

I think you're thinking about SMR - Shingled Magnetic Recording. The tracks overlap because the heads are larger for writing than for reading, so writing can be a destructive process and data must be rewritten when adjacent data is wri

There actually is a way to do this easily, and it only seems to work if you have FileVault enabled. Boot into recovery, when it asks for a password say youve forgotten it, you don't have a key, and click the resulting "Erase Mac&q

Was personally hoping for a noise-normalized version of the test, as well since I'd imagine most people aren't going to keep an air purifier running on high, and the low setting may not deliver the requisite airflow.

Some additional info about this device is available from Energy Star to confirm the CADR ratings are in cfm. [0] This is odd, as the standard for CADR is often in m3/h. That works out to about 420 ish m3/h in this case. I rememebe

When it comes to progress bars that lie, I think of two major examples: 1) Apple software updates or OS installs usually never have the bar progress past 30% or so. I don't think they lie, so much as 100% is actually at 40%. 2) Windows

Unintuitively, you can disable the key on the stock keyboard. You go to Settings and turn Dictation on. (Yes, I know, bear with me.) THEN, you turn it off. And that should cause the button to disappear. It's really unintuitive, I know.

Lightning cables have exposed contacts - While at 5V, this does not pose a significant shock risk, if full current were available, brushing the connector against metal could result in sparks and damage to the connector or power supply. Addi
