My support folks have only terminal access. Sure, they could tunnel pgadmin in (via SSH) if they knew how and even what they are doing. As such they are stuck with command line only.

Informmix isql tool used to have a form mode, where one could: * select table or form from a list, hit enter * then a form with all fields would show up * one could populate some fields with query condition, e.g. name = 'xyz' * th

Paris taxis are pretty bad in my experience. Try getting one to drive you to the airport at 4am or Sunday - you have to order one a day ahead. Fortunately folks at the Paris office always had a friend taxi driver who would help, but this co

Not so easy to do. As usual, there is a risk that such legislation will be abused to let people who are trying to break in to a system for malicious reasons, claim later it was research. A decent law would require researchers to register wi

Yes, otherwise - when keys travel with secrets - there would be absolutely no security. This is akin to disk encryption where you have to type password on boot, but then data is accessible later.

I really want to disagree. Assuming the code is correct: - proper handling of system calls and EINTR, - do not call illegal functions in signal handlers, - proper synchronization to avoid race conditions, - etc. it will work just fine.

Nope. Once the sync was lost, you were playing two different games: player A on machine A is in room 1, player A on machine B is in room 2. Resetting rand sequence would not correct the introduced error. The only way to correct such error w

I am one of the authors of Fire Fight game, which had the same multi-player model as Doom. Main source of multi-player sync loss was a different number of rand() calls between machines e.g. a different animation sequence for own character v

Using good passwords (i.e. alphanum, case sensitive, perhaps with some special characters) in end user deployment is a support nightmare. Imagine you are trying to tell such password to user over a phone on a support call. The 10 digit numb
