Requiring HTTPS for services on the private network seems rather extreme. How do you even do HTTPS on a private network not attached to some publicly-resolvable external domain without installing the root certificate on all devices?

I don't understand the "I have a macOS laptop, and I use Arch Linux on a different computer" claim. If anything that's an even better time to use Nix, because it means I only need to know one package manager instead of t

On the contrary, I find it super helpful to set up my workstation. I don’t use any other package manager on macOS these days, everything is Nix, fully declarative with a small script that basically does `nix-env --install` (but with the fla

I don’t know about Erlang but typically language-specific packages are handled with a tool that converts from the language-specific package management system into Nix, and that tool will do whatever validity checking you normally expect fro

Blizzard's response was to modify /run to pop up a dialog first warning you that /run is used by scammers and requires you to confirm that you know what you're doing.

That file is new in Unicode 13. Also I think it might be based on Apple's behavior. I just tested every single emoji codepoint listed there, and it's almost entirely consistent with Apple's default rendering. And the very few

My recollection is for the textual characters that got repurposed as emoji, it’s implementation-defined as to whether the character defaults to text or emoji but that most renderers opt for emoji (which I believe is copying Apple’s decision

I'm honestly surprised at Firefox's behavior here. I thought all of the browsers years ago identified homoglyph attacks and deployed defenses. For example, in Safari, this domain does render as https://www.xn--80ak6aa92

Last year Apple introduced 2 flags on the network: “constrained” (the Low Data Mode toggle) and “expensive” (most cellular and personal hotspots). These are intended to let the app make intelligent decisions about what network requests to d

If it’s catching Patreon then Patreon must be doing something really egregiously wrong, because there’s tons of spam I get to my address that’s exceedingly obvious. And I have no problem receiving other email from Patreon, so I think Patreo

FWIW shellcheck can help flag cases where you used a bashism in a file with the #!/bin/sh shebang.

That's just for the login shell. It still ships with /bin/bash, and /bin/sh still by default invokes bash (in sh compatibility mode). However there is a systemwide flag you can set to make /bin/sh run dash

The problem with delayed ACKs is that requires controlling the server. If you control the client, you can’t remotely turn off delayed ACKs, so instead you have to disable Nagle’s algorithm.

n is any arbitrary number? Oh. Also I just realized I was reading this previously as x and s being fixed values and saying “if x % s is 0, (n * s) has n values”. Hence the confusion.

The code comment uses variables ‘n’ and ‘s’ without defining them. From context I gather ‘s’ is the upper bound, but what’s ‘n’? And when it says (n * s) numbers contains n values, I’m not sure what that’s supposed to mean either.

That’s the exact opposite. That’s eagerly loading all defined functions. autoloading means the function isn’t loaded until it’s used.
