It depends on the group. When I interviewed there recently, one of my interviewers was there in exactly this capacity (taking research into products).

e-songs sell much higher volume. Therefore, e-books must cost more to cover the fixed costs (someone else posted a breakdown of book-costs in an earlier thread). Edit: http://www.tobiasbuckell.com/2010/01/31/why-my-books-are-no-...

I highly doubt Microsoft will switch to cash purchases. That way, they need to transition into a more paypal-like system, with more regulation. With points, no currency is actually changing hands. With money, it becomes more complicated.

Which is different (entirely) from what the article was saying. It listed off several things which current languages do. What (someone) up the chain was saying was exactly that. Lisp is interesting because of those things that it alone does

You are misunderstanding his point. Lisp used to be awesome because it implemented feature X. That is, show people feature X in Lisp, and they would be impressed because nothing else did X . Now, everything does X. Showing someone Lisp doi

I would have agreed with you until about a year ago, when AMD got it's act in gear and starting releasing better linux drivers. Admittedly, I used only one (and never used an nVidia), but the experience was fine (excepting the growing pains

Unfortunately, there isn't a good vim frontend. IIRC Viper mode and Vile mode both do strange things.

They install the various crap on machines because it 1) gives them revenue 2) allows them to differentiate They probably will not stop doing this, as it's not like Microsoft is forcing them to.

The AK is more reliable because it is less accurate. The tolerances on the various mechanical parts are higher, but as a result they are looser.

Kayak/Bing Travel wasn't Microsoft, IIRC. They acquired another company who copied the look and feel of Kayak.

There is another reason to label something wontfix: If it falls too low on the priorities. If you know that you do not have sufficient time to do everything, and that you have issues that are far more important, you might as well just mark

Fish is zsh, but with reasonable defaults and worse customization. If you want to build/find a good zshrc, zsh is a good choice. Otherwise, fish is probably a better choice.

More specifically, this appears to allow for more general model-checking, as most programming languages do not explicitly work on transitions (some declarative languages can be exceptions).

Strictly speaking, if you make more than that you are better off hiring someone to clean for you. Realistically, if an hour of free time is worth $25 (and to many people it seems that it is), you should go for it.

A few points about exercise: Some of the point I have heard is to change the metabolism, so that while you are doing other things, you are burning more calories. The other issue is that simply eating less will cause you to lose muscle, not

Marmaduke Explained has the benefit that Marmaduke is worse. It lacks the basic fundamentals of a joke in many cases. For what it's worth, XKCD does not have this. It may or may not be funny, but it is not awful.

Exponential growth is unsustainable. In a universe where the infinite does not exist (either big or small), we are strictly bounded by things. At some point Moore's law will show it's true colors (a logistic curve) and taper off.

If you know that alfredo is equal parts butter, cream and parmesan, you will use it more sparingly. In general, if you know what goes into food (e.g. oil, butter etc), you realize how many calories (e.g. food) is in it. Also, (generally) it

IIRC, search is expensive. It takes a lot of capital to get the indices and user-data which makes you competitive. Yahoo wanted to make money off of their (numerous) other properties as opposed to running down the rabbit hole of search.

You can decompile the Eve source code. Python is not in fact the best language for obfuscating what you do. IIRC the EVE people do what every game developer does, and stupidly assumes that the client follows the rules. Furthermore, all of t

Launching a kernel is easy. Making people want to use it is hard, as most apps people want are boring to write and/or trapped in the poor design decisions of the past (e.g. POSIX).

It is possible to eat less but gain weight. No. Unless you cut energy expenditure as well, the energy has to come from somewhere. If you are consuming 1500 Kcal and using 2000 Kcal, you will loose weight. Thermodynamics is not out to get yo
