Defaulting is a much better word, I shouldn't have used 'bankrupt'. And I agree with you, I think it's a nearly impossible for the USG to default on its debt, even temporarily. The only situation in which that can happen

I agree with what you are saying, but even before that point, the USG which is sovereign over its money supply, will be able cover any liabilities it has by creating the necessary money. This is what I was alluding to when I mentioned that

Hilariously weak? I think they lay out a reasonable argument considering the amount of debt around the world and the fragility of the economy. The big question is: will we have deflation or inflation? I am not sure, but I doubt the USG will

A lot of it is going into prop-ing up corporate debt. I remember that they even bought junk rated bonds.

A very promising project is https://github.com/foxcpp/maddy . It is an all in one server that can both receive and send email.

This is a great idea and a desktop app is the right fit for a product that aims to give sovereignty to the user. The app should be able to generate HTML files and then upload them to one of the supported providers (netlify, private vps, etc

Ok, I think there really is a difference in how people perceive slowdowns. - Google Docs is substantially slower than MS Word, especially when you have more content inside. - app.diagrams.net seems to be quite good with the few shapes I add

I love it. With password managers becoming better and by owning your domain, it almost feels like a self-sovereign identity system. It would be great if services would implement better support for browser form auto-fill, and ask the minimum

I sympathise with the walled garden App Store argument. I hate it that Apple keep such a tight grip on the application distribution channel. At the same time, I really hate the trend where browsers are operating systems and I use native app

Gold backed coins, like PAX, are very easy to censor. While all the coin ownership information sits on the blockchain ledger, the gold sits somewhere in a vault and the custodian company has the capability to blacklist coins. Virtually all

Check out /e/ ( https://e.foundation/ ). It’s an Android rom that is privacy oriented and that removed google services. They also sell devices that have /e/ preinstalled.

He took a principled stand and risked he’s whole business and I appreciate that. If apple would enforce the same rules for everyone I think people would give them some slack. But as it stands, they don’t.

I didn’t know that they allow different prices. A few days ago someone replied to my comment on HN and told me that it’s not allowed. If indeed it’s allowed, I think it’s more reasonable for Apple to require app makers to offer the IAP sign

Sounds like a hassle. You might as well run it on a separate computer, at least you will be able to use them at the same time. I would prefer better app isolation so I can run everything with the same user, but still hold the apps accountab

The external provided software repos are one thing I find superior on Linux, compared to macOS and Windows. It gives you an OS managed way to do updates to 3rd party providers, as opposed to each app shipping their own update code, many tim

I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible to make a more granular extension permission system that also has stricter sandboxing. Safari is already going in that direction. The new extension system is more restricted, although I don’t know if

If you use a Mac, a 5k monitor with integer scaling (2x) will take fewer GPU resources to run than a 4K with fractional scaling (1.5x). This why I refuse to switch to a 4K monitor for now. Will do the leap to a 5k monitor but the options ar

What about the fact that we buy their 1k phones or 3k laptops? Does that not count for anything? Apparently not, it's not enough anymore. Large companies like apple want a piece of every pie. If this trend continues you will soon be ab
